Night 54: Feds fire tear gas as over 1000 gather in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Federal agents fired tear gas, pepper balls and flashbangs at demonstrators in downtown Portland during the 54th straight night of protests on Tuesday.

Officers made their first appearance of the night at about 11:10 p.m. and immediately started using crowd-control munitions in an attempt to disperse hundreds of people gathered outside of the Multnomah County Justice Center and Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse on SW 3rd Avenue. Another group of federal officers marched down SW 4th and stopped outside of City Hall. It’s unclear what prompted them to stop at that location.

Earlier in the day, the “Wall of Moms” (and dads) gathered at Salmon Street Springs Park before marching to the Justice Center area in an effort to protect younger protesters.

The moms have been trying to separate protesters and the federal officers, as well as helping people wash their eyes and recover from exposure to tear gas. Their close proximity to the action means they’re often the first to feel the effects of crowd control munitions..........................................

They're just angry, and while BLM started these protests, I'm not sure they're still doing it for BLM purposes. And they're being confrontational about it. It's not a march, it's not a real protest, it's a 'lets confront these cops and try and start some shit. And we'll film it on the internet while we're at it."

Black lives, police reform, justice reform; none of that was mentioned in the articles I read. Hardly any messaging other than a couple hashtags were even communicated in any of the tweets.
