Trump campaign leans into Goya controversy in new Spanish ads
BY TAL AXELROD - 07/22/20 11:34 AM EDT

President Trump’s reelection campaign is leaning into the recent controversy over Goya Foods with a slate of Spanish-language television and radio advertisements as he seeks to cut Joe Biden’s margin with Hispanic voters.

The Trump campaign announced Wednesday that a television ad highlighting “Democrats’ shameful smear campaign against Goya Foods, a beloved Hispanic-owned family business” and two radio ads will begin airing in Florida, and a third radio ad will be released “in other regions.”

The ads appears to cast Democrats as socialists and extremists, claiming that the party members are "too extreme for Hispanic Americans."

“From Democrats’ support for socialism, to cutting school choice and police funding, they are just too extreme for Hispanic Americans—and Joe Biden is too weak to stand up for us. Now, with the left's assault on Goya, it's clear that not even your abuela's Sazón would be safe in Joe Biden's America,” Latinos for Trump said in a statement in announcing the ads.

The television ad seizes on recent threats by Democrats to boycott Goya Foods, a popular Hispanic food brand, after its chief praised Trump at a White House event earlier this month.

“We sacrificed so much to be free and respected,” Cuban actress Susana Pérez says in the television ad over video of Cuban refugees being airlifted. “Now the left has launched a smear campaign against Goya. The brand we love just because Goya is working with President Trump.”

Trump Promotes Goya In New Spanish-Language Ad

Full disclosure: I had some Goya pinto beans for dinner last week. I bought several bags -- as many as I could carry -- when they were marked down 75% year ago. Muy delicioso.

It’s been weeks and the news has been saturated. Biden should do a commercial saying why the protest is happening.

Those brown people in cages, those brown people that Trump is working to keep from getting counted from representation, the birtherism, his opposition to DACA and his refusal to comply with SCOTUS orders to accept applications, the white supremacists he caters to, his deportation policies, and the DHS 'soldiers' he is now deploying in Portland and soon Chicago.

We see token brown people being used and others trying their best to be used by Trump and his followers. When other brands of food were not found on the shelves in Hispanic stores and Goya was the only one available at times, suspicion rose among us. Now the reason has been verified.

African Americans use the term 'Uncle Tom', and they share the same awareness. They were never going to vote for Herman Caine as president, but he was the source of a lot of excitement among Tea partiers who thought their ignorance for skin color is shared by everyone else of color. Like Stephanie Miller said on the radio after Obama was elected and the republican party selected Micheal Steele as chairman "It's just not ANY black man".

Let him waste his money on those ads. It is showing of his ignorance. The republicans never got their return on investment in trying to erode black voters during Obama's presidency, and they can try again with this Tio Tomas (Uncle Tom in Spanish) from Goya.

Those brown people Trump harasses are seen as our own family, and no joking here - I am 4th and 5th generation hispanic american (father's and mother's side respectively) and we know where at least 4 sides of our family are in Mexico and Spain, so these are likely brothers and sisters.

Pendejo45 has no idea what he's doing.

This has nothing to do with leaning Democratic or Socialist.
Goya exec praising Pendejo45, thus agreeing with caged brown people, DACA, ... is what boycotting GOYA products are all about.

I saw a recent acronym for GOYA as
Get
Out
You
A$$

Directed at Pendejo45

Another clever acronym for MAGA,
Mexicans
Always
Get
Across

My wife said we had a can of GOYA beans in the pantry and that she could donate it. She works hard to donate and distribute to needy, and not organizations. I told her it was fine - just to get rid of it and that I didn't want to have anymore of their stuff in our house. I never ban stuff in our house except anything illegal and guns. Anyhow, she grabbed it and threw it away.

Biden's attacks on Trump are character, personality. Not so much as policy - where do you start, or do you need to?

But smearing Democrats is something else. Trump is the extremist who roils everything to his advantage. How do you attack that?

This is demographic micromarketing at its best. Chop up the electorate and target them. Almost racist in itself. But it could move the numbers if we don't counter.

Brilliant. Is it not quid pro quo to extend free advertisement to the Goya guy for blowing smoke up his ass. Oh right, that is no longer impeachable in MurKKKa.
I always thought when something falls it reaches peak speed and stays at that speed until it crashes. America has been falling for over 3 years and keeps picking up Speed at an exponential rate. Everything “trump” defies science. Just look at his health reports.

I stopped buying Goya stuff when I saw the CEO wet kissing Trump's butt. Never-Trumper just became Never-Goya.

Goya CEO apparently doesn't get it. His main customers are poor Hispanics, with at lot of Tex-Mex eaters. The CEO splits the company's profits with Trump, whose policies are against most of Goya customers. Trump forces hispanic parents to separate, locks the kids in cages and forces their parents leave USA.

I'm sure Pendejo45 thinks we Hispanic/Americans are too stupid to understand what he is trying to do.

I hope it backfires spectacularly.
