Statewide mask mandate for Ohio will take effect Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine says

Source: cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A statewide mask mandate for Ohio will go into effect Thursday at 6 p.m., Gov. Mike DeWine announced Wednesday.

The move comes as 1,527 coronavirus cases were reported in Ohio during the past 24 hours -- the 15th straight day of 1,000-plus cases in the state, and the third-highest daily number since the pandemic began. Ohio saw a record 1,679 daily new cases reported last Friday.

Masks will be required for people in indoor public places, in outdoor places where social-distancing can’t be maintained, and using public transportation, DeWine said. Exceptions will be made for those who are under the age of 10, have a medical condition, are playing sports, or anyone speaking at a religious service.

Until now, DeWine has only imposed mask mandates in individual counties that are put under “red” or “purple” alert by his administration using seven different data indicators, including recent increases in community spread, doctor’s visits, hospitalizations, and intensive-care visits.

... after the mandate in my county. It went from about 10% masked to nearly 100% (indoors) right away.

The anti-maskers will surely come out, though, and the media will give them lots of attention as usual.

We definitely have our Brent Terhune types here, though. I knew after hearing his satire that he was from the Midwest. (Found out the comedian is from Indiana.) His "Midwest redneck" impression is very accurate. They're still not the "norm" around here, but I encounter them sometimes. (And I'm not trying to generalize, but I've often learned that their parents moved here from WV.)

A mandate is only good if it’s enforced and no one has the desire to enforce the mandate where I live .We have been under a mandate where I live in ohio for a couple of weeks because of high numbers and although there is more people complying it’s pretty much do as you please.

And it is a little like demonstrations, where it is best to just look the other way for the most part. But there are people (not sure how many) who will begrudgingly comply now that it is legal.
