Trump blames spike in COVID cases on protests, increased travel and cases from Mexico

Source: MSN

Trump used his second appearance in the White House briefing room to blame a summer surge in coronavirus cases across country on holiday gatherings such as Memorial Day, nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died at the hands of police, a substantial increase in travel as well as the country's border with Mexico, a country he said was struggling with pandemic.

"There are likely a number of causes for the spike in infections. Cases started to rise among young Americans shortly after demonstrations, which you know very well about, which presumably triggered a broader relaxation of mitigation efforts nationwide," he told reporters.

"We're also sharing a 2000 mile border with Mexico as we know very well and cases are surging in Mexico. ... it's a big problem for Mexico but cases are surging very sharply and all across the rest of the Western Hemisphere. "

Republicans have failed to rally around a cohesive plan, with some dismissing Trump's renewed push for a payroll tax cut and others balking at a price tag that could exceed $1 trillion. Trump told Fox News' Chris Wallace in an interview that aired Sunday that he may not sign a relief package into law if it doesn't include a payroll tax cut. Critics say a payroll tax cut does little to assist the millions made jobless by the pandemic.

As expected, Trump is blaming Asians (China), African-Americans (BLM protesters) and Latinos (Mexico) for the spike in COVID-19, which is mainly due to Trump's demands to rush the reopening of the economy.

Of course, this just emboldens his supporters who think there is nothing wrong with going out drinking or back to church in enclosed areas.

When schools open and the "surge" continues and gets even worse, he will blame the POC children and also the teachers and staff.

Also side note: bringing in more law enforcements and others into cities also will help the "surge" in COVID-19.

Going to a public restroom. IMO, this is especially dangerous.

Do not touch any surfaces. Use paper towels. No door knobs. No air dryers.

In the early pandemic days, cases were traced along travel routes. When people travel, they stop to pee, or they stop to eat and pee. But they always go through restrooms. That’s where the Covid action is, IMO.

I didn't know there were any protesters in smalltown, lily-white northern Wisconsin.

The other day, we had positive cases in 58 out of 72 counties. In half of those counties, the people have only seen African-Americans on TV.

What a way to know what Rush is saying without having to tune-in!

In my area have had any effect on new cases of covid-19. I can't imagine it's any different across the country. The majority of the participants are wearing masks and are outside. Very different from the Trump riots. Then he wants to bring a huge RNC convention to my state. SMH!

Out of everyone I know that demonstrated recently, no one got COVID.

Mask wearing was widely practiced during the protests, as evidenced by most photos.
