CDC predicts up to 175,000 deaths in US by Aug. 15

Source: ABC News

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the U.S. should anticipate between 160,000 and 175,000 total reported COVID-19 deaths by Aug. 15.

National and state-level ensemble forecasts suggest that the number of new U.S. deaths over the next four weeks will likely exceed the number reported over the last four weeks.

States with the greatest likelihood of a larger number of deaths include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

...went from 4.2 on June 12 to 8.5 yesterday.
And, there are still 11 states with rates of 4 or less, or less than the national number 5 weeks ago.
This is a huge rate of spread.
The only time is was higher than now was midApril to early June before testing really started to ramp up beyond the obviously sick and front line folks.
Over a thousand deaths, each of the last 2 days. That's 8k per week.
30,000 deaths in 3&1/2 weeks seems a reasonable estimate.
