Mayor Lori Lightfoot defends insulting text messages to FOP president: 'I don't take back one word t

Source: Chicago Tribune

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Wednesday defended sending a series of insulting text messages to Chicago FOP President John Catanzara in which she called him a “clown,” “fraud,” “cartoon character” and “liar,” saying the comments were justified because he supported President Donald Trump sending “troops” into the city.

At an unrelated news conference, Lightfoot acknowledged sending Catanzara the texts and said she sent them with the expectation that he would make them public.

“In the middle of everything that’s going on, in a craven political move, this man waved his hand to President Trump and invited him to bring federal troops into our city,” Lightfoot said. “Federal troops into our city, a la Portland. How is that responsible? How does that make sense? What he should be doing is focusing on the things that are actually important to his members.”

Additionally the article states:

Catanzara was elected to head the local FOP, which has thousands of members, earlier this year. From the time he started with the department in January 1995 through mid-2017, Catanzara amassed at least 35 complaints alleging misconduct, records obtained by the Tribune show.

11. Mayor Lightfoot agreed to allow FBI, DEA and REAL police investigators in NOT the goons as

Seen in Portland. They will be identified with badges and work with the city police. She also said she knows and trust the federal person she spoke with.

She made it very clear that dotard’s goons would not be roaming the city streets as in Portland. And, if that happens she would be in court immediately. Dotard is spinning his lies to hurt her and make it look as thou he wore down a strong woman mayor of a major liberal city...he did not! Don’t bite on it..

she's open to accepting RESPONSIBLE Federal help. More resources provided through existing channels.

It's not as if that help was nonexistent before.

She's not inviting thugs to beat, gas and arrest without probable cause.

Is this a Trump campaign ploy? Of course. It's pathetically transparent.

Doesn't mean she shouldn't use the largesse to help where she needs help. They need help if that's what it amounts to. Nobody needs to die to maintain purity.

I just hope she doesn't let whatever help that materializes silence her criticism of the administration.

And frankly, I think that whatever help is provided is unlikely to provide quantifiable results prior to the election so is unlikely to turn into a Trump campaign ad.

That would make it a "police" city as in Russia. Just what Trump wants. If he gets enough police power in enough cities, he will militarize to stay in the WH.

That said ef the police union. They are horrible. They supported jon burge after knowing he and his squad tortured hundreds of black men into false confessions.

I commend all of you who know WTF every acronym means. I googled FOP and came up with all kind of stupid results. I’m tired of googling acronyms.

Is it a crime to explain the acronym just after it’s first use so those as stupid as I can ramble on with a smile our face?

Most FOP members could not tell you who Putin is. At their best, FOP chapters are police unions. At their worst, they are branch offices of the Klan.

You probably hear see similar language from elected officials behind closed doors. What I like is she is trying to hold them accountable behind closed doors. A mayor could have a private relationship with the police department but say something different publicly. A mayor has a lot of control over a police department so they could reform things if they wanted to.
