Trump cancels Republican convention activities in Jacksonville

Last edited Thu Jul 23, 2020, 06:21 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: CNN

(CNN)President Donald Trump announced Thursday that there will not be Republican convention activities in Jacksonville, Florida. Events in Charlotte, North Carolina, will still be held. In a striking turnabout, Trump said he informed his team that his focus was on protecting the American people, even though aides advised him they could make an in-person convention safe.

"I looked at my team and I said the timing for this event is not right. It's just not right," Trump said at the White House. "To have a big convention, it's not the right time." "There's nothing more important in our country than keeping our people safe," Trump said.

He said he would still deliver a convention speech but in a "different form." "I think we're going to do it well," he said of the modified plans to convene rallies online.

Earlier in the pandemic, Trump forced the Republican National Committee to embark upon an extensive search for a new venue to host an in-person convention after North Carolina's Democratic governor balked at the prospect of a major gathering. His decision Thursday marks a complete reversal after insisting for months that an in-person acceptance speech be delivered before a massive crowd.

While a deadly out of control pandemic is attacking this country. This is a disaster that is again all of trumps fault, and when he kills teachers and kids the American people will run from him and the GOP even more turning more states blue. This action from trump is already doomed .

He in no way made this decision and most certainly didn't lead the discussion about how it would be better if they didn't hold it there.

People will buy it though - this new 'tone' is going to make people believe he is reasonable.

Conventions take years to fundraise for and Trump arrogantly thought he could turn around an aircraft carrier in a few weeks.

Donors weren't forthcoming for the show and his low poll numbers probably didn't help matters with the type of people that pay for these things to buy influence.

In the end I doubt this was about public safety and about not being able to pay for it.

"I looked at my team and I said the timing for this event is not right. It's just not right," Trump said at the White House. "To have a big convention it's not the right time."

The next time Trump gives a shit about anyone but himself will be the first time. Jacksonville was not equipped or prepared to handle Trump's vanity show, so they weren't going to allow it to go on. Now Trump is trying to get people to believe his empathy and humanity for others is the sole reason for canceling this shit show. Trump's bullshit piles up so fast you need wings to stay above it.

convention rolls around.

He's in deep, deep trouble - politically bankrupt.
Biden is up 7.5 in Florida and significantly leading in all the so-called battleground states. States like TX, GA & AZ are the battlegrounds now.
There's little hope for a vaccine between now and the GOP convention - though he could lie about it
The refrigerator trucks won't be in Florida for another 2-4 weeks so it's likely to get worse there

The economy is likely about to go in the toilet something like 1929 and jobs with it
The racial unrest is likely to ratchet up with his Gestapo in Portland, Cleveland, Chicago, etc as the Inspector General is investigating their behavior in Portland
Judge ruled Epstein records can be made public today.
Ghislaine Maxwell case is about to get underway (they either have to kill her or pardon her)
Michael Cohen got released from prison and is free to publish his book in the wake of Mary Trump's record seller
NY attorney won the right to accelerate getting Trump's tax returns.
etc, etc

Dr. Ronny Jackson could be about to diagnose Trump with an ailment triggering his retirement in exchange for a pardon: fear of dying in prison. The treatment is retirement in a country with no extradition treaty back to NY State and good golf weather with his money stashed in the Cook Islands.

Maybe Mitt Romney or Nikki Haley or whoever is really going to run should be picking the convention location.
