CDC backtracks and now emphatically supports reopening schools after criticism from Trump
Source: Business Insider
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphatically endorsed reopening America's schools in new guidance posted on its website Thursday night, backtracking from previous recommendations that were criticized by President Donald Trump earlier in July.
"Reopening schools creates opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of one of America's greatest assets our children while taking every precaution to protect students, teachers, staff and all their families," the new guidance stated. The new recommendations emphasized that the "best available evidence" suggests children are unlikely to be "major drivers of the spread of the virus."

Reiterating his support for opening schools on Thursday, Trump said: "Children have a very strong immune system. They seem to be able to fight it off and not have a problem."
But infectious disease experts have consistently said that more research is needed to fully understand the impact of COVID-19 on children.

Anyone who's had kids knows they're usually carriers of whatever bug is out there.

(16,999 posts)children under age 10 spread covid there is
no doubt about those age 10-18, which are the biggest groups of school age children. And even if there is doubt, is using our children as lab rats really the way to go? I knew Twitler would be an awful President because hes a piss poor excuse for a human being. But this. This is so much worse than I ever imagined.

(12,712 posts)It's just that No Child Left Uninfected Initiative, as I have mentioned.
We are moving to a new education model: New Vectors in Education and Viral Learning.
It's really going to spread and CATCH on fast.
I just thought of how a child would feel if they did bring it home and any, (or all) of their family members died because of it. It is a fact that children will internalize any connections they make about something like that and believe it is their fault. That's going to create a potential lifelong trauma of potentially guilty feelings that would be hard to work through despite the circumstances of being compelled to attend.
That's another reason this is not a good idea. We also need to safeguard our children's mental health and family environment for their sake. For instance, being orphaned early in life can be tragic and lasts a lifetime. How many kids do we want to put through that? In the long-run, that's bad for us all.

(583 posts)As a early childhood teacher I cannot express how much I am worried about this. We are coughed on, sneezed on, and have snot wiped on us almost daily. How can we not be at risk. Also we really do not know enough about this disease to understand if there are long term problems for children after they contract it. This is insane and the fact that the CDC bent to his will is so disturbing!

Israeli Data Show School Openings Were a Disaster That Wiped Out Lockdown Gains

of course they want to label it as SIDS but the child was not well can covid won.
The are some studies that show devastating long to consequences on the younger people
but that can only be proven over time.
Remember the flu does not kill people, but pneumonia and other secondary infections does.
This country is at a tipping point and Nov can not get here soon enough or Jan for that matter.

(18 posts)I was two weeks away from a fatal heart attack. A mild case of the flu affected my kidneys and fluids filled my chest. My heart was massively enlarged by the time it was diagnosed. The cardiologist said I was two weeks away from dying and he didn't know if I'd actually survive.
Fortunately I had been running over ten miles a day, that's why I survived. What drove me to the doctor was I suddenly couldn't run 100 yards.
