John Saxon, starred in 'Nightmare on Elm Street,' 'Enter the Dragon,' dies at 83

Source: Chicago Sun-Times

John Saxon, the television and film actor known for his roles in three “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies and “Enter the Dragon” has died. He was 83. Saxon died of pneumonia Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Brooklyn-born Saxon (born Carmine Orrico) was a familiar face on the small screen, too, having guest starred on numerous series, most notably “Falcon Crest,” “Dynasty” and “The A-Team” in the 1980s, as well as “Bonanza” and “The Virginian” in the 1960s. He portrayed Dr. Theodore Stuart on “The New Doctors” from 1969-1972.

In 1966 he received a Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actor for “The Appaloosa,” starring opposite Marlon Brando. In 2012, he spoke of the film in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “This was to me a terrific role and something I was ready for, but [Brando] was despondent,” Saxon said . “He said he had lent a whole bunch of money to his father, and what he was saying to me was that his father ruined his life by losing all of his money. He was kind of bored in the picture.”

Saxon was married three times and is survived by his wife Gloria, one son, and a sister.

This guy was a "guest star" in so many TV series as a character actor and this news sortof got lost in the Regis Philbin news. He was always recognizable when he appeared in something.

Enter the Dragon and A Nightmare on Elm Street, I'll always remember him for two roles: first, his role as Major Fred Sloan (and his robot double) on The Six Million Dollar Man and for his role as Lieutenant Fuller in Black Christmas.

RIP and what a solid acting legacy he left behind. Also, if you're old enough to remember the Kenner action figures from The Six Million Dollar Man, his likeness was used as one of the masks for the Maskatron action figure.

I grew up with a big crush on this man and always thought he was one of the best looking men around. He was a versatile actor and able to convincingly handle many different roles.

I am sad to learn that we've lost him. Sympathies to his family and friends.

And yes, I remember him as a guest star more than anything else. Almost every week he'd be in some show that I watched.
