Target to close stores on Thanksgiving Day, they say 'this isn't the year for crowds'

ORLANDO, Fla. - Target says that they will not be open on Thanksgiving Day this year.
The major retailer announced the closure on Monday while discussing holiday plans for the upcoming season. They explained that holiday shopping often means crowded events and with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, "this isn't the year for crowds."

Instead, shoppers can reportedly purchase holiday deals earlier than ever, with savings starting in October and continuing throughout the season. The deals will be available both in stores and online.

Another major retailer, Walmart, also said that they will not be open on Thanksgiving Day this year, stating that it wants to have its employees spend time with their families during the coronavirus.

(23,336 posts)Like it used to be. Watch for Friday store opening times. I'd guess 5am.
Happy Christmas shopping!

(38,958 posts)The stores never needed to be open on Thanksgiving Day. They will make plenty of sales without doing so.

(7,523 posts)Most stores can barely manage Black Friday crowds even during non-pandemic years.
Only danger with this is if a store decides to capitalize on the fact that other stores are closing.

(22,100 posts)this whole year. After all, until we get a national response to the CV, we probably won't see any sizable reduction in CV cases until then (in my humble opinion). When people can climb into their cars, etc. and drive easily over state borders, CV cases will continue to rage unabated. Some restrictions on individual freedoms will be needed and those refusing to wear masks, social distance, while in public,
will need to face severe fines or go to jail on a temporary basis, as they are endangering the public health. Businesses will develop solutions to continue to operate under such conditions and the American public will adjust.
Don't let the few loudmouths control the narrative. They don't deserve simply because they are the loudest.
