New Jersey police charged three people after breaking up a more-than-700-person party at an Airbnb rental on Sunday night.
The Jackson Police Department charged a homeowner identified as Yaakov Weiss, 40, and two party organizers Patience Guanue, 23, and Alicia Hinneh, 22, after spending almost five hours shutting down the event.
Capt. Steven Laskiewicz said in a statement posted on Facebook that the party attracted more than 700 people with more than 100 vehicles parked in the area, violating statewide coronavirus restrictions.
New Jersey was one of the first states to be hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. It has recorded 179,812 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and 13,884 deaths, according to state data. Ocean County, where the party was held, has counted 10,238 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 942 confirmed deaths.

(128,979 posts)but even here in Philly over the weekend, they had to chase away a large group from Paterson, NJ (which is right near Newark in North Jersey across from NYC), who literally drove probably 1 1/2 hours here to Philly to have a get-together at one of the city's neighborhood parks that has a creek running through it.
That neighborhood is right near the Delaware River (where Jersey is on the other side and the neighborhood is not far from one of the drawbridges that go between PA and Jersey).
Swimming in the creeks has generally been forbidden in the city regardless, although locals often do it. But not like this out-of-state group (which also included cars from NY)! They had their beach umbrellas and lawn chairs and tables and bbq grills and whatnot, and plopped that stuff right in the middle of the creek. And Paterson, NJ is already near N. Jersey beaches like Sandy Hook, so it had to have been like a 60 mile or so trip to get here (like us in Philly driving to Atlantic City).

(128,979 posts)We, like the rest of PA, are getting an uptick in cases (most likely due to travel to/from July 4th festivities without social distancing) and had earlier knocked the curve down to having around a 3% positivity. Now we're back up into the 5% - 6% range.

(8,739 posts)Western North Carolina is now thick with Florida, Georgia and South Carolina tourists. I think its time to shut down state lines. Be safe, wish you well. Stupid is gonna kill us all, 30 percent stupid can wipe out an entire species. Fox and White wing radio is offering an all you can eat Buffett of stupid. You know how those mouth breathers love em some all you can eat, with a chocolate dipping fountain.

(128,979 posts)(e.g. headed to Virginia Beach, Hilton Head, Savannah) and around here "going dunnashore" is a Philadelphia right of passage.
But I also have issues with Gov. Murphy, whose state positives and death rates were 2nd worst behind NY (mostly concentrated around NYC in North Jersey) and once they finally knocked it back down, the higher rates shifted to the south closer to Philly and there are daily reports of all kinds of "rental house parties" that are being held in NJ where people are contracting the virus, yet he just seems to dismiss it.
Just this past weekend, some 80+ lifeguards who work up and down the Jersey shore towns (in addition to the 2 LBI towns, you had Avalon, Ventnor, Ocean City, & Wildwood) either contracted the virus or are quarantined because of those "parties". Meanwhile attendees from PA at those same parties return and spread it around our area.
And then it just gets hand-waved as "well they didn't get seriously ill" (thankfully for them) or "they didn't really have any symptoms" or "they weren't directly near people on the beach...." as if that makes it okay.
These people become "super spreaders".

(12,376 posts)Also, Sandy Hook and the state beaches are usually full capacity by 10 a.m. No one is allowed to enter.
That does not take away from your resentment about the gathering.

The old "double-nickel" Tacony-Palmyra (toll used to be 10 cents) and the Burlington-Bristol. Both have a $4 toll (vs the DRPA bridges that have a $5 toll).
They used to have way cheaper tolls than the regular suspension bridges because when they were up, of course you had to wait (and they were basically "privately" owned). But now the toll prices are closer to the other bridges.
Tacony-Palmyra
(goes between Palmyra, NJ and the neighborhood of Tacony in Philly)
Burlington-Bristol
(goes between Burlington, NJ and Bristol, PA (Bucks County)
Whenever any of the big sailboats or "tall ships" are going up the river that far, they have to lift them too. They can get under the Walt Whitman and the Ben Franklin though (but the big cruise ships can't get under those so don't come up even to the Walt Whitman in South Philly).
This will go under all of them!

(128,979 posts)(this was before they replaced it and made it a toll bridge) and got lost in Jersey. I normally always got on the NJ Turnpike either from I-676 across the Ben Franklin Bridge or from the PA Turnpike (I-276) going over the Connector Bridge but wanted to try something different.
Thankfully they FIXED THAT I-95/I-295 MESS!!
