Congressman Matt Gaetz Files Criminal Referral Against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg

Source: Office of Congressman Matt Gaetz

Today, U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) filed a criminal referral against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for making materially false statements to Congress while under oath during two joint hearings in Congress on April 10th, 2018 and April 11th, 2018.

During a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and also a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Mr. Zuckerberg repeatedly and categorically denied his company engaged in bias against conservative speech, persons, policies, or politics and also denied that Facebook censored and suppressed content supportive of President Donald Trump and other conservatives.

In June of 2020 however, Project Veritas published the results of an undercover investigation featuring two whistleblowers who worked as Facebook's "content moderators," revealing that the overwhelming majority of content filtered by Facebook's AI program was content in support of President Donald Trump, Republican candidates for office, or conservatism in general.

"Oversight is an essential part of Congress' constitutional authority," Congressman Gaetz states in the letter. "As a member of this body, I question Mr. Zuckerberg's veracity, and challenge his willingness to cooperate with our oversight authority, diverting congressional resources during time-sensitive investigations, and materially impeding our work. Such misrepresentations are not only unfair, they are potentially illegal and fraudulent."

Step 1: make bogus accusation.

Step 2: utterly fail to prove accusation (i.e. Use project fucking veritas, a known scam/fraud/criminal outlet, as your evidence).

Step 3: all future accusations against the accused are viewed in the light of the first ridiculous, easily discredited accusation.

I wish right wing nuts would stop the phony attacks on Zuckerberg. He really is more like one of them than like any sort of decent human being .

This will just help the creep claim that the "far left" and the "far right" attack him. Therefore, it stands to reason that he must basically be a decent guy. A moronic line of logic but representative of a type of shallow thought process. I think Zuckerberg should be in prison, but not because of Project Veritas (barf) or Matt Gaetz.

About conservatives than it does about Facebook.

(Not that FB is a saint, but today’s GOP makes beelzebub look like a sweet cherubim in terms for f sheer vileness. )

Edit to add: won’t it be nice when this case gets tossed and there’s legal proof that the conservative ideology is toxic, fraudulent, violent, and unamerican? Thanks Matty!

more Republican post were censored because more Republican posts were lies, not because of bias. Simple explanations are sometimes the best route to take.

Can’t the best lawyer in the country be found to beat this asshole at his own game? A good lawyer can either drag it out in front of the cameras for months if he/she has the evidence, or make quick work in the media if it’s just a bluff.

Don’t let Gaetz work the system for Chrissake! That is Trump’s method and why we’re in the mess we’re in now.

Someone should file a criminal case against Facebook. However, it should not be this creep nor should it use a known Republican smear monger like James O'Keefe. This will net help Zuckerberg.

A criminal case should be filed by Sen Wyden:
https://www.wyden.senate.gov/news/press-releases/wyden-introduces-comprehensive-bill-to-secure-americans-personal-information-and-hold-corporations-accountable

“Mark Zuckerberg won’t take Americans’ privacy seriously unless he feels personal consequences. A slap on the wrist from the FTC won’t do the job, so under my bill he’d face jail time for lying to the government,” Wyden said. “I spent the past year listening to experts and strengthening the protections in my bill. It is based on three basic ideas: Consumers must be able to control their own private information, companies must provide vastly more transparency about how they use and share our data, and corporate executives need to be held personally responsible when they lie about protecting our personal information.”

The Mind Your Own Business Act protects Americans’ privacy, allows consumers to control the sale and sharing of their data, gives the FTC the authority to be an effective cop on the beat, and will spur a new market for privacy-protecting services. The bill empowers the FTC to:

Establish minimum privacy and cybersecurity standards.
