Some of Joe Bidens allies are waging a campaign behind the scenes to stop Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., from becoming his vice president.
This disgruntled group of at least a dozen Biden backers, including a few of his top donors, initiated the move against Harris close to a month ago, just weeks before a decision is expected, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter. Many who spoke to CNBC declined to be named as these efforts have been made in private.
In some cases, her foes have taken their concerns directly to members of Bidens VP search committee, led by former Sen. Chris Dodd, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., and Cynthia Hogan, who previously served as counsel to the presumptive Democratic nominee when he was vice president under President Barack Obama.
Although none of these actions signify that Biden will drop Harris from the list, the movement gives a glimpse into the effort being waged to derail her candidacy.

Did she really piss some people off with that debate attack on Biden? Since Biden understands it's all part of the game, why should anyone else care?
Is this the last gasp of some Bernistas trying to derail the works?
We'll probably never know all the details, but whoever's behind it should be neutralized.

(19,704 posts)But with the vice presidential selection finally around the corner, the conversation no longer sounds anything like progress. Instead, reporting on deliberations inside the campaign suggests their decision-making is being shaped by the same sexist concerns about women in leadership that helped keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House four years ago.
While its unclear if the accounts are accurate or present a complete picture, the story they tell is deflating, familiar, and harmfulthat the campaign is distrustful of women who are ambitious or who otherwise display leadership traits that somehow dont seem to bother people when exhibited by men.
They want a woman, just not that kind of woman. Sound familiar?

(52,793 posts)We shouldn't want loyalty, as much as honesty and integrity.
Harris has no motive to be 'disloyal' given she and Biden are in agreement on the major issues.

(19,704 posts)no one would be saying a single word, but women? Entirely different standard.
We want a strong, experienced man, but a loyal woman who knows her place?
Bullshit.

They want a woman they perceive as compliant.
Whether she is or not is another question, but they want to believe she's compliant and knows how to do as she's told.
That isn't Kamala Harris.
But, if, as has been suggested, he's using a bunch of old white dudes to help him pick, that's what they're looking for: a quiet "biddable" woman.

(52,793 posts)but Kamala exudes both strength and charisma.
I don't want someone who blends into the woodwork. I want a fighter - someone who goes for the political jugular. That's Harris.

Warren is also "too ambitious"....even though a man will never be called too ambitious.
In men ambition is to be lauded. In women, it is a negative to many.

Me.
(35,454 posts)and that's not what we want or need. We need a strong Veep who can take over at a moment's notice if it ever comes to that and she is that person. Haven't we had enough of loyalty pledges? And let's be real, it would not be in her best interest to stab him in the back if he chooses her.

(9,870 posts)Their view seems sexistlike when a woman is strong, she's seen as strident. That kind of thing.
During the debateeveryone was trying to take out everyone else. It's a debate.
Like the way she questions Repug witnesses. We need that sharpness.
they the are the folk who say women don't get head because they are not aggressive enough, then say it is unbecoming for a woman to be aggressive....fuck them

(22,218 posts)Though I don't know the veracity of the article, I do know that sexist behavior knows no political boundaries. Although we don't have the critical mass the Republicans have, since most ass hats slid to their side years ago, they can still be found in Democratic circles. Harris is strong and smart and even today that scares the shit out of some people. But instead of taking it out on her, maybe they should examine why they're so easily scared in the first place...if their introspective enough to realize how fucked up that is. They're probably not, so we have to keep playing these fucked up, scardy man games. Ugh.

(10,599 posts)Joe could resign before the end of his 1st Term, and allow his VP to run as an Incumbent in 2024, which would be a Huge advantage for that person.
