Duckworth interviewed by Biden team for VP slot

Source: Washington Post

July 30, 2020 at 6:34 p.m. EDT

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) confirmed Thursday that she has been interviewed by Joe Biden’s team to be the Democratic Party’s vice presidential nominee.

“I have been interviewed, yes, I’m on Team Biden,” Duckworth said during a Washington Post Live interview with reporter Bob Costa. “But it really doesn’t matter what position I play as long as we get Joe Biden elected.”

The senator was referring to talks she’s had with the panel that Biden convened to vet his positional picks, said a person familiar with the selection process who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly about the process.

Duckworth said the interview process has been “positive.” She also made it clear she has been in frequent touch with Biden, saying she’s “always loved interacting with vice president Biden.”

Hard to read the tea leaves here - someone in Biden's inner circle clearly wanted this information out there. She'd be an excellent choice. Can't wait for the big announcement, what, next week?

And they wouldn’t be starting the week before they plan to announce.

They’ve been vetting Duckworth, Warren, Harris, Bass, Demings, and Rice since at least mid-June.

There will be final/follow up interviews in the coming week once the vetting is complete and Biden nears a decision.

I recommend the podcast “That’s the Ticket” by crooked media, featuring discussions among staffers who managed the VP vetting for Obama, Kerry and Gore.

I'm prepared for the fact that it might be someone few of us have heard of.

However, I'd be delighted with Sen. Duckworth and most of the others who have been mentioned as contenders.

rules her out in my estimation. She would be an excellent choice, but we have other possibilities with more law enforcement experience and more economic experience.

Who's name hasn't surfaced lately, and hasn't surfaced in the media? Sen. Warren.

Email from Biden last night originating thru my Email subscription to “Warren Democrats”.

He said he would be having an important phone conference tonight with Elizabeth Warren and we supporters about how “we” will win in November.

It is sometimes hard to tell if the “we”meant he and Liz, or basically ALL of us including we supporters as well.

But, I found it intriguing so close to his plans to announce his VP.

she will not help...not with the red states or purple states we may turn blue. She will be portrayed as a socialist ....and that is not helpful. Also she is almost as old as Biden. Tammy Duckworth and Val Demmings are the best choices IMHO. We also can't afford to even temporarily lose a Senator.

Any more?
