(CNN)Former WWE wrestler James Harris has died at age 70, according to a news release from the wrestling company.
Harris, who performed in the ring as Kamala, made his WWF debut in 1984, according to WWE's website.
In a career that spanned more than two decades, Harris battled many of wrestling's superstars, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Andre the Giant, according to the release.
"He terrorized opponents and thrilled audiences in Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, WCW and WWE until 2006," the WWE said. His character, Kamala, was promoted as a 6-foot-7, 350-pound "Ugandan Giant."

(2,785 posts)He really wasn't a very good wrestler in the sense of being able to do wrestling things to make it look real. His original wrestling name was Sugar Bear Harris. After they gave him the gimmick of Kamala a cannibal from Uganda. They instructed him to just keep it simple like doing chops and that sort of thing.

(2,517 posts)There was a time when he and 'Abdullah the Butcher' caused a lot of havoc in old WWF.
What I read about the Ugandan Giant, they really had to sell his origins from Africa since he wasnt the best technical rassler.
Was entertaining from my youth.
Peaceful transitions.

(7,596 posts)They should have just put his ring name down in the title, then mentioned his real name in the article itself.
You know they just wrote it that way to get a reaction.

(42 posts)Kamala worked his craft for 20 years and was known by the millions he entertained. The fact that professional wrestling is a performance instead of an athletic competition doesn't change that.
