Biden preparing to announce running mate by mid-week: NYT
Source: Reuters
AUGUST 10, 2020 / 10:47 PM
(Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has interviewed the finalists in his running mate search and his campaign plans to announce a decision as soon as mid-week, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing people briefed on the process.
Biden and his potential vice president will formally accept the partys nomination at the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Aug. 17-20, and he has been expected to announce his pick before it begins.
The New York Times said the four-person committee that screened the candidates had effectively disbanded after completing its work, and that the decision now rested solely with Biden.
His campaign is expected to announce his decision as soon as Tuesday, but more likely Wednesday, the newspaper said, citing unnamed Democrats. It noted Biden has missed previous deadlines to announce his pick, and that the timeline could slip again.
The Biden campaign told Reuters it had no comment on the report.

(7,715 posts)She's never held an elected office, and the Trumpsters would love her to be the VP selection.
Don't get me wrong: she would be fabulous as the NSA or Secretary of State. However, she has no experience in holding a political majority.
We have already had one person with no political experience as President, and look at how that turned out.

Though, at the end of the day, it's what Biden thinks that matters

(7,447 posts)but there's almost no objective metric I see that would make Rice better than Harris. Rice's contribution if foreign policy which Biden already covers. No elective office experience, no executive experience, no running a campaign, and no real domestic policy experience.

(24,328 posts)Rice is not running for president, so it isn't the same as Trump
Even if she were to become President middle of term, she'd have some experience at that level
Plus, she does have experience working in DC
I like her as a choice better than Harris
Though Harris was my 2nd choice for President

(18,402 posts)Traditionally, candidates announce their VP choice days before the start of their party convention.
Maybe it just seems more dragged out this time because there are precious few campaign events for the media to cover during the pandemic. So theyre spending all their time playing parlor games with the Veepstakes.
Then, everyone will promptly ignore the VP candidate by Labor Day.

(21,254 posts)All Trump has is to go negative, go negative and lie. He will bring up Benghazi, will keep playing the victim that president Obama spied on him. Susan Rice can counter much of those lies head on, refute them with hard cold facts. We can't just ignore Trump's lies we need to smash them head on and Rice can do that. I will be solidly behind whoever Joe picks.
