WASHINGTON An internal investigation has been launched into the shooting of a 51-year-old suspect by a Secret Service officer near the White House complex late Monday, which prompted agents to briefly remove President Donald Trump from a press briefing.
Shortly before 6 p.m., according to an agency statement, the man allegedly approached a Secret Service uniformed officer standing post about a block from the White House grounds, telling the officer that he had a weapon.
"The suspect then turned around, ran aggressively towards the officer, and in a drawing motion, withdrew an object from his clothing," the agency said. "He then crouched into a shooters stance as if about to fire a weapon. The Secret Service officer discharged his weapon, striking the individual in the torso. "
No firearm was found on the suspect, said a law enforcement official who is not authorized to comment publicly.

(14,636 posts)That area has more cameras per square foot than the ces camera pavillion. Every square inch of the area within blocks of the wh is under ultra-hd surveillance. They likely caught it from a dozen angles.
If they say there is no video, it is a bald faced lie.

(3,483 posts)no footage of a plane on 9/11....I'm not a conspiracy nut, just saying that cameras in Washington seem to have extremely selective lenses.

(17,382 posts)It is just amazing why unarmed men have this habit of reaching into their waistband. Perhaps it is a weird compulsion to immediately give yourself a wedgie upon seeing law enforcement.

WASHINGTON After police officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown to death in August in Ferguson, Missouri, he claimed the teenager had reached into his waistband, causing Wilson to fear Brown had a weapon. Brown was unarmed.
Guns do come out of waistbands, said Eugene ODonnell, former police officer and current lecturer at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. Yet the waistband claim has become a cliche of the aftermath of police shootings.
Some departments around the country need to be reined in on a lot of this stuff, ODonnell said, adding that the recent uproar over the killing of Brown and others is a good opportunity to address police practices before and after shootings.
Scouring recent news archives, The Huffington Post turned up many stories about police officers shooting armed suspects who reached for their waistbands. But it also turned up many stories in which police cite waistbands after shooting unarmed suspects.

...perhaps that is why unarmed men keep on reaching into their waistbands in front of police? They do not want to look too poor to afford a gun, so they reach into their waistband as if they have a gun?
