President Trump says UAE to open diplomatic ties with Israel

Source: Associated Press

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United Arab Emirates and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic ties as part of a deal to halt the annexation of occupied land sought by the Palestinians for their future state.

The announcement makes the UAE the first Gulf Arab state to do so and only the third Arab nation to have active diplomatic ties to Israel.

Trump tweeted a statement from the countries, acknowledging the deal. He then told reporters in the Oval Office that it was “a truly historic moment.”

“Now that the ice has been broken I expect more Arab and Muslim countries will follow the United Arab Emirates,” he said.

7. Technically it was a joint statement by Trump, Netanyahu, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed

As much as I hate Trump, this is big news, and a step in a positive direction for middle east peace.

3. A welcome development and step in the right direction.

That means Trump must’ve had zero involvement in this.

4. Trump will try to take credit somehow for this. The UAE says Israel agreed to suspend

Palestinian annexation plans as part of this recognition

15. Trump was advocating more annexation a few months ago.

This may be a deal between Israel and UAE alone and they are including the US now as a formality.

6. Watching Trump now on TV

He said he wanted to name it "The Donald J. Trump Peace Accord" (seriously)

There are about 12 staff around him, each given an opportunity by Trump to praise Trump and say what a great leader he is.
Kushner went on for so long I thought Trump was going to stop him, but it was a praise for der Leader.

13. Trying once again to capitalize on Obama's work

The first connections started in 2009 after Obama took office. UAE has long recognized Israel as a nation. There has been a diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi since 2015. The two work extensively together against Iran.
