Postal Service: Michigan deadlines for mail-in voting might disqualify some ballots

Source: Detroit News

The U.S. Postal Service has warned Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson that mail delivery timelines pose "significant risk" to ballots sent too close to Election Day and that could lead to their disqualification.

USPS General Counsel Thomas J. Marshall wrote to Benson that Michigan election laws and certain deadlines for requesting and casting mail-in ballots are “incongruous” and “incompatible” with the Postal Service's delivery standards.

"This mismatch creates a risk that ballots requested near the deadline under state law will not be returned by mail in time to be counted under your laws as we understand them," Marshall wrote in a letter a week before a primary election that saw record absentee participation in Michigan.

He added the Postal Service "cannot adjust its delivery standards to accommodate state election law."

They are there to deliver the mail in a timely manner. Period.

They are being used here to legitimize sub-counting of ballots in a federal election for *what they say are* logistical reasons. This is beyond their job functions.

No reason to stay at that point.

order to keep control of the country. As mentioned here, USPS has no business deciding dates of elections, their business is to deliver mail, if they are being hindered by the fascists that is against the law but with the laws right now controlled by the fascists, catch 22.

Don't put it into any mailbox w/o having them stamp it in front of you. Disregard the free return postage, pay to have it postmarked if you have too.

in the Postal System is the most obvious corruption I have ever seen. Open, blatant corruption. And the Democrats in Congress have no way to stop this? If not then we the people are powerless in this country outside of mass demonstrations. And trump and his SS goons, federal police goons(brownshirts) are going to start attacking us in our streets, BIG TIME. Look at Minsk, his BFF's territory, look at Portland. Look at what Putin did in Russia with his election. He will be in power until 2036. You don't think that trump and his buddy haven't been talking and Putin passing along his tricks?

Trump is removing mailboxes. Closing Port Offices, defunding the USPS. Open obvious corruption because COVID-19 gave them the real fear that they could capitalize on. People won't vote in close spaces no matter how big the gym or church meeting hall is.

These forces of fascism have to know that there will be a reckoning, one way or another. Sure idiot-in-chief can declare martial law, suspend posse comitatus and the rest if people rise up against their corruption, but they will face a day of reckoning in this country. People on both sides. trumps ignorant and racially hateful base and we the people are getting pissed. I just hope our leaders in the Democratic Party are ready for THE face-off.

Trump says he is refusing additional post office funding as part of his fight against mail-in voting

President Donald Trump said that negotiations on additional coronavirus relief funding are at an impasse on Capitol Hill in large part because Democrats want to give billions of dollars to support the U.S. Postal Service and mail-in voting efforts.

“They need that money in order to have the Post Office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” Trump said in a Fox Business interview Thursday morning. “But if they don’t get those two items that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.”

“If we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money, that means they can’t have universal mail-in voting. They just can’t have it,” Trump said. “Sort of a crazy thing. Very interesting.”

Trump had been asked what specifically was causing a breakdown in communication between the White House and Democrats on Capitol Hill.

The president has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election will be “rigged” and rife with fraud if an expected surge of mail-in ballots is allowed to take place. Election experts say those claims are false.

Here in PA our ballots have information on the outside of the envelope - tracking codes, name, party, address, signature. So they can separate into party affiliation. Why am I not trusting this, no matter that there are big penalties for interfering with the mail? Trump will just waive the penalties anyway if he wins.

What's to ensure my Democratic ballot doesn't just disappear?
