As Census Count Resumes, Doubts About Accuracy Continue to Grow

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

WASHINGTON — With the 2020 census into its final stage, more than one in three people hired as census takers have quit or failed to show up.

Many still on the job are going door to door in areas that largely track places where there are elevated rates of coronavirus infections, according to calculations by the National Conference on Citizenship, Civis Analytics and The New York Times.

And with 38 million households still uncounted, state and local officials are raising growing concerns that many poor and minority households will be left out of the count.

Wracked by the pandemic and politics and desperately short of time, the last stage of the national population count — a Constitutional mandate to tally everyone living in the United States accurately — is unfolding in historic doubt.

How much will, how much blowback to probe these counts in 2021? Can Congress do anything about it?

The question might be - is the undercount equally distributed, or did red locales and white populations count above their actual weight?

I was at 20 homes today. Most did not answer the door ( I could hear voices and other sounds in many of them). Of the five that answered three refused to participate and give any information. Two did. This was in an African-American south suburb of Chicago.

If people don't participate there is nothing the census can do about it. Every household in the U.S. was mailed a census form they could have done online, mailed back or did by phone. About 40% did not do any of that.

Of course that would be logical and within the realm of reason. None of that registers with Donald Trump.

If it was going to be canceled Congress would have to do that. Trump has nothing to do with it. If it was canceled the present legislative and congressional districts would have to stay in place and there would be no redrawing of districts. There is no guarantee the virus will ever be "controlled" -- however that is defined.

For example, do a refresh after CV-19 is under control. Thoughts?

Don't take the extra time, and it's just not going to be possible to get canvassers out to all the addresses to collect the information.

But longer it takes, the more people will change house and the harder it will be to track down everyone's location on 4/1/20.

Especially if the oft-predicted wave of evictions and foreclosures occurs.

As with most of what this administration has attempted . . This is a tainted census and will not reflect We The People.

The 2020 Census will probably count about as many Americans as this one did:

I just did it. I received a confirmation with number, and phone number for questions.

Since nothing has ever come in the mail, and since nobody has knocked on my door, I decided this might be.better than not being counted at all (not that I trust that I actually will! be counted, since this is a blue district).
