Father says Black Wisconsin man shot by police is paralyzed

Source: AP

The father of a Black man who was shot, apparently in the back, by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says his son was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Jacob Blake's father told ABC News that he was told his son was shot eight times during the Sunday evening confrontation with police, which was captured on cellphone video and led to two nights of unrest in the city between Milwaukee and Chicago.

The father, who is also named Jacob Blake and who was driving from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Kenosha to be with his son, told the newspaper that he learned Sunday night that officers had shot his son eight times and that he saw the video of it online a few minutes later.

He said his son now has "eight holes" in his body, and is paralyzed from the waist down, though doctors don't know if the paralysis will be permanent.

I hope Jacob Blake makes a full recovery. I hope his kids and family recover fully. Kids have the hardest time because they have not developed a sense of logic to offset/balance emotional trauma. This screws with most people for the remainder of their lives. Emotional trauma to children should be punished at least as severely as physical or life threatening wrongdoing.

In my opinion, any or all right wing tolerance for James Brady's advocacy actions was due mainly because of his connection to Reagan and his skin color. I bring this up because lethal level response is being debated about this incident, while I believe gun control among civilians and therefore law enforcement should be the center of debate. All gun violence should be taken seriously no matter skin color and no matter the source. I hope any advocacy he or his family take part in or lead in the future is taken as seriously as anyone else's efforts.

No matter what the 'fear' justification was, it could have been handled without shooting him up. Afraid he was going to escape in the car? - puncture the tires. Afraid he was going to pick up a weapon in the vehicle? - wait till he either does, or physically reach out and pull him back by his arms or body: don't reach instead for a gun. Also, why rubber bullets (yes they are dangerous) for riots but not other law enforcement? Feels like a race to kill civilians.

had plenty of time to deal with this in other ways. Jacob Blake was WALKING to his car. He was ONE person. There were FOUR of them. At any point they could have tackled him and wrestled him to the ground. They chose not to do that. Instead, they allowed him to WALK to his car and open the door, THEN one of them grabbed and held him while another one shot him in the back SEVEN TIMES. That is not someone who is in fear, that is the behavior of a COWARD. Or a bunch of them, take your pick.

if it was an unarmed white man walking calmly to his car where his three children were waiting. Without knowing more, it just appears that it was assumed he was guilty of something because he was black.

shot him eight times point blank. Point blank. Like from a foot away.

Let's not give up on the BLM protests, eh? Keep up massive pressure from a massive movement until reforms happen, because even when Biden and Harris are elected, we still have until Jan. 21, 2021 until he takes office. That's a long time, and this poor guy is paralyzed now because of this trigger happy cop.

In most of these cases the victim doesn't live, so we only have the cops story and a grainy video.

Reports are that he had arrest warrants and a troubled past - but nothing justifies shooting a man in the back 8 times.

Look at all the criminals in the Trump Admin and they get little to no time.

That's the reason cops use excessive force and kill when they don't have to - they want the victim silenced.
