1 person shot, killed near downtown Portland protests Saturday

A person was shot and killed in downtown Portland as dueling demonstrations — one a pro-Trump car caravan and another a counter protest mounted by various left-wing groups — unfolded late Saturday.

Portland police say the shooting near Southwest Third Avenue and Alder Street. The agency did not say whether the incident was related to the demonstrations.

Update: After seeing new pictures showing the victim on the ground. He appears to be a white or Hispanic male wearing a Patriot Prayer hat.

9. I'm not questioning that may have happened...

...but the reports from Oregon Live have it that, as medics worked on the victim, a camo jacket with a "Blue Lives Matter" flag was seen on the ground next to them. I would assume this means that the victim was wearing it, although I guess it's possible that someone dropped it there, either coincidentally or as a sign of who did the shooting. But we still don't have any official details.

There is a video of the event. Portland Police said that it is not certain who the shooter was and they are investigating. To their credit, they did not jump to conclusions. Our police have a bad reputation but some are straight arrow. I am really sad and shocked. Only Thursday I had a delightful day walking downtown and doing all my Christmas shopping at small businesses, with a take out lunch in a park. I love downtown and she is suffering! Now few will follow my example
And listen to my campaign to revive our downtown!!! Tragic that some deluded guy who went along with the Trump agenda or some Left protestor are now dead!

An Associated Press freelance photographer heard three gunshots and then observed police medics working on the body of the victim, who appeared to be a white man.
