Pelosi, Biden slam Scalise for doctored video that altered activist's words

Top Democrats sharply criticized a senior House Republican on Sunday after he shared a video that included a clip apparently doctored to insert words into an activist's question to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden that were never actually said.

Former Vice President Joe Biden (D), the 2020 Democratic nominee, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called on House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) to take down a video that Twitter flagged earlier Sunday as containing "manipulated media."

The video contains a clip of an interview with Biden and activist Ady Barkan – who uses a computerized artificial voice due to his ALS – in which Barkan asks if Biden can "agree that we can redirect some of the funding” from law enforcement to mental health and social services, to which Biden agrees.

"This video is doctored — and a flagrant attempt to spread misinformation at the expense of a man who uses assistive technology. It should be removed. Now," Biden wrote.

It looks like he might have removed it, otherwise the message would have been that it violated Twitter's rules.

free speech or no, that this kind of stuff ought to be categorized as slander or libel. In fact, I think it's even worse. Lying is one thing, fabricating evidence is quite another, imo.

13. Before the election even became a thing, I watched a demonstration of manipulated video's that

showed how prominent people could be changed to make it look "convincingly" like they said something completely differrent from what their words actually were. Their mouth movements matched the altered phrases. It was mind boggling. At that time they said how devastating this could be during an election season. They even used Obama as one of the people they used in the demo. I think it was done by CNET or one of the places that demo the latest tech.

I didn't forget that demo but this is the closest I've heard that showed manipulation of info during this election season. I HOPE it's the last!
