Maybe we can get it to swoop down, grab all the Trumps and Trump enablers and worshipers and supporters and carry them on with it, then keep on going.

14. It's a damned shooting gallery out there lately. One whizzing past today, another next Sunday...

And just a month ago there was a car-sized rock that barely missed us, came out of nowhere.

Yikes.

https://www.techtimes.com/articles/252145/20200831/nasa-tracks-an-asteroid-double-the-size-of-great-pyramid-of-giza-that-will-collide-the-earths-orbit.htm

The article jumps all over the place and is very randomly edited (e.g. confusing miles with miler per hour) but freaks me out nonetheless.

1600 Pennsylvania Ave. you will be greatly rewarded. If you REALLY want your following to increase, and punish those poisoning your planet. You may be sick of humans, but save the rest of your creation by ending GOP. Targeting the Anti Christ there would be a good show of you power to smash him. Now THAT would be some damn GOOD “God Blessin AmurKKKa.”

19. That is a bogus site

Reasoning: Poor Sourcing, Lack of Transparency, Failed Fact Checks
Country: USA
World Press Freedom Rank: USA 45/180

History

Founded in 2014, The Science Times is a website that publishes news on scientific research and technology in a variety of fields. According to their about page “We provide credible news & info., in-depth reference material about diverse subjects that matter to everyone. We are a source for original and timely science and research information as well as breaking news in the various fields we represent.”

The website lacks transparency as they do not openly disclose ownership or editors, and infrequently name authors or provide bios.

Funded by / Ownership

The Science Times does not openly state ownership, however, on their Privacy Policy page, they state they are owned by The Science Times Company. A search for this company does not produce results. Revenue is derived through advertisements

Analysis / Bias

In review, The Science Times publishes news and information related to science in such fields as medicine, space, AI, and the environment. Articles and headlines do not use loaded language such as this COVID-19: Children Might Carry Up to 100 Times More Viral Genetic Material Than Adults. This story is sourced to JAMA Pediatrics. In fact, most articles on the website are sourced to credible scientific journals and research studies such as The Lancet, CDC, and National Academy of Sciences. While most information is credible science they also occasionally run sensational stories such as this An Unknown 15-Foot Creature Washed up on Merseyside, UK Beach. This story is sourced to the Questionable Daily Mail, which frequently publishes false and misleading information. Further, they have also published misinformation regarding the Coronavirus. In general, The Science Times is not a credible pro-science source as they completely lack transparency, occasionally utilize poor sources, and have failed fact checks.

Failed Fact Checks

“New evidence shows wearing face mask can help coronavirus enter the brain and pose more health risk, warn expert” – Unsupported
Did a scientific study conclude that women with “big butts” have smarter children? – False

Overall, we rate The Science Times Questionable due to the use of poor sources, a complete lack of transparency, and failed fact checks. (D. Van Zandt 8/2/2020)

Anything that would be a "legit" site would not put bullshit in about an asteroid being "Set To Hit Earth's Atmosphere Next Week".

The actual headline now is - "Asteroid Bigger Than Great Pyramid of Giza May Pass Earth Next Week", which is better but the b.s. about "hitting the atmosphere" that remains in the article, completely destroys all credibility.

The asteroid's closest approach will be 19 times the distance to the Moon. Maybe the very outer fringes of our exosphere.

Asteroid 2011 ES4 will pass closest on September 1

The orbit of asteroid 2011 ES4 is still not entirely known. Our knowledge of it might improve sometime today – or early tomorrow – if it is “recovered” by astronomers. It’s expected to pass within the moon’s orbit, possibly as close as 0.19 lunar distances.

32. Will not get closer than about 4.6 million miles to Earth

https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=465824;orb=1
https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=465824;orb=1;old=0;cov=0;log=0;cad=1#cad

NASA data for 2010 FR aka 465824; close approach 0.04955 AU (astronomicla unit - ie the average sun-Earth distance, about 93 million miles) on 6th Sept.

The Mirror (god help us, but that tabloid is more reliable than "Science Times", a highly dubious site that can't count or write decent English - automatic translation?) got it right: https://www.mirror.co.uk/science/nasa-says-asteroid-twice-big-22604539
