The state of Florida reported 3,571 new coronavirus cases Thursday. The new cases bring the states overall total to 637,013 since March.
Floridas positivity rate, the number of people who tested positive for the first time compared to overall tests, remained below 10% Wednesday. The Florida Department of Health has not released the positivity data for Thursday as of this publication.
Medical officials say the rate should be below 10% for at least two weeks to show a decline in infections, with the state working to bring the cumulative percent positive rate down to 10%, too.
The World Health Organization said that a regions test positivity rate needs to be below 5% for at least 14 days to relax restrictions.

Of course, with this slight uptick, Governor DiSantis says hes ready to bring tourism back to the Sunshine State in time for the Labor Day Weekend.

Millions of Americans, tired of being pinned down by the pandemic, are expected to hit the road this Labor Day weekend despite a coronavirus crisis that continues to generate more than 30,000 new cases per day and shows little sign of slowing down.
And the destination of choice, according to the travel site TripIt, is a state where the coronavirus crisis continues unabated Florida.
Florida this year is claiming the lions share (plurality) of Labor Day flight reservations, with 12 percent of all plans including a destination in the Sunshine State, the site says.
By comparison, this time last year Floridas share of flight reservations was 4 percent, TripIt reported.

I say slow down on the reopening. We just reopened hair salons, and some schools.

(21,264 posts)that September 15th, I think, is "Take off your mask day." What a bunch of freaking idiots if this is true.
I keep repeating this, "This is the first revolution where the rebels are killing themselves."

(23,065 posts)Grr - WTF is wrong with people. It hits you whether you believe in it or not. I just feel so sorry for the workers in Orlando/Tampa being exposed to all these idiots could be very bad for their health as well.
My BFF, sadly, is a repug. She's smart and science based and has turned against drumpf but still listens to Faux. She was claiming (no longer, this was early on) that the virus wasn't killing nearly as many people as reported, because "heart attacks" are being counted as CV19. I explained, yes, there was a heart attack, but it was CAUSED by CV19. By April she accepted the fact that this is totally dangerous and real. Now she has a sister and a brother in law in the hospital and the BIL isn't doing well. Sad that way too many repugs (like the rest of her large family) don't fully believe in this until it hits them. They were wearing masks, but they also went to church one day and 2 weeks later, sickness. They took off their masks only for singing, but it was enough.
Good things, it appears BIL is starting to improve and sister is being sent home. Also, there are lots of people in SE GA now more aware of the dangers of this fucking disease and aware that they are being lied to. Hope this translates into less votes for drumpf.

(17,382 posts)...Florida will once again try to reopen, which will cause another spike. Of course, Republicans will just blame protesters, rather than the massive influx of Labor Day tourists.
