Trump fixates on the promise of a vaccine -- real or not -- as key to reelection bid

Source: MSN

President Trump is so fixated on finding a vaccine for the novel coronavirus that in meetings about the U.S. pandemic response, little else captures his attention, according to administration officials.

Trump has pressed health officials to speed up the vaccine timeline and urged them to deliver one by the end of the year. He has peppered them with questions about the development status and mass-distribution plans. And, in recent days, he has told some advisers and aides that a vaccine may arrive by Nov. 1, which just happens to be two days before the presidential election.

Trump’s desire to deliver a vaccine — or at least convince the public that one is very near — by the time voters decide whether to elect him to a second term is in part a campaign gambit to improve his standing with an electorate that overwhelmingly disapproves of his management of the pandemic.

“We remain on track to deliver a vaccine before the end of the year and maybe even before November 1st,” Trump told reporters at a Friday news conference. “We think we can probably have it some time during the month of October.”

It does not really matter whether it works or if it is safe. Trump will announce a vaccine in late October. Of course, it will turn out after the election that the announcement was just aspirational, and that there are still months of tests ahead and it will take months to manufacture the vaccine in large quantities once testing is finished.

Although I could imagine him at one of his Bund rallies telling the crowd that he developed the vaccine himself in the Green Room at the White House. Of course if one does come out before the election, or if he even says there is one in existence before the electino, the M$M will be falling all over themselves to broadcast it to America as Donald Trump saving Murca.

I guess if a consortium of scientists develops a viable vaccine, then Trump won't be able to take sole credit for it.

"CDC is lying about the death rate." "Doesn't affect kids at all."

I actually heard a jackass say that CDC had admitted Covid-19 deaths were actually under 10K. Really? So every single state health department, red and blue, plus every foreign government worldwide is in on this ruse? Really? Really? Just so someone...George Soros...who the hell knows?....can take away your "rights" to do what exactly? God, these people are dumb.

Hi It's that Damn Brit again.
Perhaps your glove puppet of a president has been in touch with Dustin Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, (who, bye the way plays a film president very much akin to Trump, see Hunger Games.) and the rest of the cast of Outbreak (1995) to find his miraculous vaccine within 6 months of the covid-19 pandemic, perhaps someone, a real scientist instead of one of his tame pseudo scientific hacks, should try to explain to him that finding an effective vaccine will take years, and a cure could take decades, remember they will have to use very simple, single syllable words though and perhaps a pop-up cartoon picture book would help, if non of that works try getting his secret service detail to return him to his ball pool (don't know if you have them in the U.S. but we use them to keep preschool aged children busy and amused), at least that will keep him from further upsetting your wonderfully diverse citizenship.

No way in HELL I would take a MAGA vaccine. The CDC is completely compromised after that fiasco with changing the testing policy.

The CDC is an arm of the Trump reelection campaign, and won't be viable until Biden cleans house up and down the government.

...and a huge part of his base is definitely antivaxers. So, how in the hell is a vaccine going to help his campaign when half of the people who are going to vote for the bastard think vaccines are a government plot to take away our purity of essence? "Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to putting coronavirus vaccines in shots, there are studies underway to add vaccines to salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream...ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream!"

The pro-vaccine part of the electorate knows that if Trump had anything to do with the progress of a COVID vaccine, it would have been to delay its creation.

Quoting sources, and number of doses as well as costs, of vaccines 'on order'.

Vaccines that don't exist as yet. And won't for quite a while.

Hype, hype, a big dose of 'any day now' type hype.

But hopefully, when an effective vaccine comes out, maybe next year hopefully, the Trump Thinkers will be stout anti-vaxxers and believe the rumors that the vaccine contains a mind control drug that will turn them into Liberuls, or Zombies, so Natural Selection will kick in and improve the herd intelligence.

The vaccine will also be added to drinking water and jet fuel, so that between drinking water and the chem trails, the spread will be thorough and unavoidable.
Dedicated Trump Thinkers will have to withdraw to their Doomsday bunkers for at least 6 months when the vaccine becomes real and is in use.

The news in the U.K. just get's more absurd folks, before you all lynch me for going off subject, I see no reason not to ridicule Trump on other issues, mainly because they back up both his and his supporters lack of grip on reality already shown with his views on the main theme of this thread, we're now hearing his diatribe about the fires raging on your west coast supposedly being down to mismanagement on the part of the excellent, professional, highly skilled people who's job it is to try to prevent such things from coming to pass, instead of the one thing which is most probably responsible, global man made climate change, despite concrete evidence of this being there for all to see, REALLY DONALD? the storylines of Hans Christian Andersen are more connected to reality than you and your misguided followers.
Further to this, it now appears that some complete cretin amongst his followers is lobbying to have this complete nutjob nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, this has GOT to be a joke hasn't it? PLEASE SAY YES!

If a phase III trial is complete by then and a vaccine seems safe and effective, then he will make a very big deal about it. The brainwashed may wonder why a threat that was a hoax and then completely under control so needs a vaccine, but they won't because they are brainwashed. There will be some among the non-brainwashed who will credit Trump-- news can be persuasive. Most will not change their minds and vote how they were going to vote.

22. Trump's use of a vaccine
Wed Sep 23, 2020, 08:27 AM
Sep 2020

Though we all want to see an end to this pandemic and a vaccine developed, I'm sorry to have to say the probability is that most of the world do not want to see said vaccine developed in the USA under Trump's administration, this is not to say that we do not want your nation to benefit from any vaccine, only that it be developed under an administration that will freely share it with the rest of the planet, this I'm afraid may not be the case if it's developed in your country under Trump, his narcissistic and megalomanic personality and his record of dealing unfairly with the rest of the world (HIS America First at ANY cost to others policy) suggest he would use said vaccine as a weapon, both within your own borders to force those who do not agree with his policies and actions into line, i.e. vaccination only for those who support him, and with those outside your borders, to impose unfair trade and other agreements on same to achieve whatever selfish aims he has, by threat of withholding the vaccine if those countries do not agree to whatever terms he tries to impose.
