Oregon bars GOP voter statement, says it was 29 seconds late

Source: ABC News

SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon Republican Party’s statement for the state voters’ pamphlet arrived 29 seconds too late and won’t appear in the guide mailed to voters for the November election, officials say.

Laura Fosmire, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Bev Clarno, said deadlines apply equally to everyone. “Anyone wishing to submit information to the Voters’ Pamphlet has several weeks to do so and we recommend avoiding waiting until the last minute for this reason," she said in a statement.

But Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that Kevin Hoar, the communications director for the state GOP, insists the party did get its statement into an online filing system by 4:59 p.m. on Aug. 25, the final day for filing.

He said the party filed a lawsuit in Marion County demanding that the statement be included in the voters’ guide before it goes to print later this month.

GOPers are claiming they were "locked out" of the online filing system for several hours, yet they'd had weeks to get this done.

I know it's a swing and a miss by republicans, but I'm reminded of the stereotyped public servant at the DMV putting up a "window closed" sign as I run in out of breath.

I wonder what the statement said and why did it take so long to compose it?
"Vote for us if you want to get things done". haha

Why should they work overtime for somebody who can't show up on time?

Deadlines for submitting election-related materials are established by law and there is no "wiggle room."

The basis of every public servant joke revolves around the DMV, but it's possible you never watched a sitcom. In a typical skit someone rushes to the counter just in time for the snotty clerk to put up a sign and go on their 2 hour break. Standing in line at the next window results in the bureau closing when It's finally their turn.

I probably should have explained the joke the 1st time. The second joke:"Vote for us if you want to get things done" is a play on their inability to even compose a ballot statement on time.

and the hilarious joke about public workers going on a two-hour break.

It just doesn't apply to the filing of election documents by a statutory deadline.

As in; taking the responsibility to ensure that your effort is proofread and submitted in a timely manner; after having several weeks to comply?

Time to own your error and move the fuck on...

republicans lose come November.

They claim that Boards of Elections around the country actively worked against them.

"See what happened in Oregon???? This happened all over the country.

This will then used as platform to declare the election results as "fake results".

While I don't see most reasonable Republicans (yes, there are actually quite a few of them) agreeing but the most rabid ones will and they will kick up a ton of dust into the air which will lead to massive confusion and, more worrisome, doubt in the sanctity of the election process.

I sat in a room once after delivering an RFP. One company dropped their's off about 60 seconds late. They threw it straight into the trash can and moved on. Brutal but fair.
