Labor Day gatherings health experts warned against during the coronavirus pandemic are popping up

Source: CNN

In San Francisco, California, city officials announced on Sunday morning they will be closing the parking lot at Ocean Beach after a gathering for a Burning Man event on Saturday attracted a big crowd. Over 1,000 people flocked to the event at the beach, according to San Francisco Mayor London Breed who called the gathering "reckless and selfish."

Throngs of people are expected at Tybee Island beaches in Georgia over the weekend, CNN affiliate WTOC reported. And images from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, show umbrellas lined up side by side down the beach.

In Pennsylvania, the amusement park Kennywood is expected to have its busiest weekend of the season, CNN affiliate KDKA reported.

And in Atlanta, many weekend Labor Day parties are on the schedule including "The Biggest Labor Day Weekend Party in the City" hosted by rapper Gucci Mane and a "Sunday Funday" rooftop party advertised with an image of people standing close together, some without masks.

People here are giving up on social distancing. Most are wearing masks, but they act like it means the can get close and be immune with it on. The beach is packed again.

and the burning of Zozobra. Other cultures celebrate summer. This state celebrates when it's over and this has been a bad one.

They limited tickets this year and required masks and people are fined for not wearing them, so we'll see. The incineration took place Friday night, so we'll see if there's a spike over the usual 140-200 we see from Friday shopping the following Tuesday and Wednesday.

My more witless neighbors had their parties last weekend. This weekend has been pretty quiet so I imagine they're partying elsewhere.

here who can't afford air conditioning or simply don't have it. They are going to head to the coast for cooler temperatures. I can't blame them and I hope the responsible ones stay safe.

On edit: I hope they all stay safe but I hope the ones who are respectful of the mandates do not end up sick because of those who don't.
