21 percent of voters say they would get a no-cost vaccine as soon as possible: poll

Source: The Hill

Just over two in ten Americans say they would attempt to get a free coronavirus vaccine immediately were it released this year, according to a poll released Sunday.

In a CBS News/YouGov survey, 21 percent of Americans indicated that they would go out and be vaccinated as soon as possible should a no-cost COVID-19 vaccine be released, while more than half (58 percent) said that they would wait to see how others were affected by the injection before getting one themselves.

The same percentage as would get it immediately, 21 percent, also said that they would "never" get a COVID-19 vaccine. That number could prove challenging to health experts who have sought to slow the virus's spread and have warned that many public activities and large-scale gatherings will not be possible until much of the population is vaccinated.

The majority of respondents expressed skepticism on the time frame of a vaccine being produced as being their reasoning for not getting the vaccine immediately. Sixty-five percent of respondents said that they would consider a vaccine before the end of 2020 to be the result of insufficient testing or the vaccine otherwise being "rushed" through production. Just 35 percent said that a vaccine before the end of 2020 would represent a scientific breakthrough.

I had not gotten a flu shot before I got the flu in 1999-ish---and spent a horrendous week of either barfing or feeling like I was gonna barf . Gotten one ever since.

HOWEVER.....I'm not trusting any COVID vaccine that has Russian ties and/or has been rushed out by Trump for political gain. I'm going to wait until real scientists say that it's safe and effective. The Putin one might make us all be brain dead and end up voting for 45.

I also haven't seen anything granting them immunity to tort actions, either.

that headline to really drive home how few people are willing to get a vaccine if one becomes available soon. Any early arrival of a vaccine should be met with legitimate skepticism.

I just gotta' giggle a bit when I think about tRump courting all the conspiracy theorists including anti-vaxxers, and now he's trying to save his sorry ass with a vaccine that may not be well tested and possibly unsafe if rushed into production as quickly as he wants.

As for me, I'll happily be vaccinated as soon as medical scientists tell me that a vaccine is safe, but not before.

willing to take the vaccine. I trust NOTHING out of the trump admin.

Let the trials continue and take all the time needed to determine that vaccine is safe and has the required efficacy.

trump is a dumbass who thinks you can speed up everything - e.g., have 9 women deliver a baby in 1 month vs the normal 9 months it takes. scientific processes take the time they need - it is what it is.

I get my flu shot every year. I have had the standard grandparent vaccines.

Nevertheless, I will not get a covid-19 shot that is rushed to market. I will wait until the phase-III testing is completed and scientists not on the government payroll review the data and opine the vaccine is safe and effective.
