COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) A far-right Norwegian lawmaker said Wednesday that he has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in the Middle East.
Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament for the far-right Progress Party, said Trump should be considered because of his work for a peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel which opens up for possible peace in the Middle East.

No matter how Trump acts at home and what he says at press conferences,..."
Well, his words and behavior here haven't created any peace in our country. Quite the contrary.

(1,956 posts)... to be nominated is not such a big deal, since 1000s of professors and parliamentarians can do this. Last time about 315 were nominated. I actually got The Nobel Peace Prize myself a couple of times
- as a member of the groups who got it. Even all of the European Union got it once, which is why there are much debate if the prize is given to the right causes.

He believes, for example, that the West should recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea as legitimate, and that Putin should not be condemned for engaging in a covert war in Ukraine.

(6,107 posts)Begin and Sadat won the Peace Prize, but Carter didn't. They were still in a state of war (cold, but still...). I don't think Israel and the UAE have ever traded blows so this treaty, while welcome, doesn't really change much in the Middle East.
