Nebraska to end nearly all social distancing restrictions
Source: AP News
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts will end nearly all of his states social-distancing restrictions on Monday even as the number of new coronavirus cases has trended upward over the last few months.
The new rules will still limit the size of large indoor gatherings, such as concerts, meeting halls and theaters, but will drop all other state-imposed mandates in favor of voluntary guidelines, as other conservative states have done.
We are loosening the restrictions further on Sept. 14, Ricketts said at a news conference.
State officials said they made the decision based on the availability of hospital beds and ventilators, in keeping with the Republican governors goal of not overwhelming medical facilities.

(19,224 posts)It predicated it's estimate by saying that's how many are expected to die even with full mask coverage and social distancing.
It's worst-case scenario envisioned 600,000+ dead, if states LIFTED SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS!
We're too stupid as a nation to survive this shit.

(64,852 posts)Here's the IHME graph.
The full mask mandate line reads 284,000. This is your full mask coverage (universal mandate).
The line involving current situation is 405,000. No decrease in restrictions but no national mask mandate.
Easing of mandates is 595,000, which is what you said.
But, full mask & social distancing mandates is not 400k.
Not to suggest 284,000 is a good thing.
Basically, it's saying it WON'T be 284,000 because there isn't going to be a universal mask mandate.
The graph is interactive, so you touch one of the trend lines at the right edge, the 3 scenarios with numbers pop up.

(10,094 posts)Nebraska is only state not continuing emergency supplemental food assistance during pandemic.
Of course our Horatio Alger story of our governor is amazing so I can see why he would decline the aid, because since he pulled himself up by his bootstraps everyone else can.......oh wait, he inherited all his wealth. He's another one of these douchewaffles like W that struts around like they are accomplished men.

(11,825 posts)Are you taking total cases and subtracting the recovered?
ProfessorGAC
(64,852 posts)Nebraska shows 37,373 total cases & 28,513 recovered, 8,430 active.
Cases minus recovered is 8,860. That's 430 more than the active cases.
The column farther left reads 430 dead.
So, that is how they are tabulating.
Total cases - Recovered - Deaths = Active

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.htmlScroll down to the "Cases and deaths by state and county" table.
Sort it by the "per 100,000" column that follows the "cases in last 7 days" column
Nebraska is the 17th highest state on this list
========================================================
As for the trend:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/nebraska-coronavirus-cases.html
It peaked in early May and then went down and then back upward so that in early August it was back to about 68% of the early May peak level, and then it kind of plateaued -- since early August it slowly went down, then went up to a higher level than early August, then down below that, and a little bit of a move up again. Like its time for a downward push again, not the opposite

(64,852 posts)A steady upward trend since mid July. Fell off a bit the last few days, but still higher than a month ago.
