DeWine's new health director pick turned down job because of 'harassment' directed at predecessor

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

Ohio's short-lived pick for state health director turned down the job because she didn't want her family to face the same harassment that Dr. Amy Acton's did.

Dr. Joan Duwve withdrew her nomination to be Ohio's new state health director on Thursday night, hours after Gov. Mike DeWine announced her selection.

In a statement to The State newspaper, Duwve said the past 24 hours had been difficult for her and her family.

"In conversations preparing for the transition to the Ohio Department of Health, I was informed that the former director's family had faced harassment from the public," she said. "While I have dedicated my life to improving public health, my first commitment is to my family. I am a public figure. My family is off-limits. I withdrew my name from consideration to protect my family from similar treatment."

There is nothing conservative about them. I hate that term being applied to frothing, screaming anti-vaxers, anti-maskers, anti-democracy, fascist-leaning domestic terrorists. They are rabid and want to blow it all up. That's where we are in some states anyway.

The Connecticut prosecutor on the Trump-Russia whitewash investigation, the candidate running against the QAnon candidate in North Carolina, and now this lady from Ohio. Good people are being hounded from public life.
