1. He didn't "downplay" it. He mocked it.

2. He didn't "downplay," he flat out DENIED it.

He's still denying it and he's trying to deflect by blaming China, instead of giving them the credit for what had been simmering under the surface, likely for weeks if not months.

Woodward is taking a lot of heat for not coming forward with this tape sooner, but come on, we've all heard Dumdum talking about himself, there was a lot of bullshit to sort through to get to it.

Bibe if tgus us Woodward's fault. Even if he'd remembered that quote well enough to find it in the pile of verbal diarrhea and had gotten it out to the media, it would have been drowned out by the Republican/Russian Facebook megaphone.

3. It had nothing to do with 'panic'

Trump downplayed it because he believed doing so would help his chances for reelection.

That was stupid, short sighted, etc. But Trump is about Trump - that is all. He doesn't give a crap about anyone else.

Didn't want to incite panic? American ammunition selves in the stores are empty from all the fear and hate he's stoked - leading to the brink of civil war.
