Conflicting Virus Data in Texas Raises Distrust of the Government
Source: MSN/NY Times
Inconsistencies and problems with Covid-19 data collection in Texas have clouded the picture of the pandemics trajectory in the state, to the point that some residents and officials say they cannot rely on the numbers to tell them what is really going on.
The state has overlooked thousands of cases, only to report them weeks after infection. It has made major adjustments to its case and death counts, defining them one way and then another, suddenly reporting figures for some counties that were vastly different from those posted by the local health department.
The changing of gears and data reporting at the state has a lot of public health departments feeling a significant case of whiplash, Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio said.
The daunting task of reporting coronavirus cases and deaths in real time has strained public health departments across the country. But none have shown more repeated cracks than Texas.

(28,246 posts)Whatever position Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick advocates is the exact opposite of what should be done. Patrick is a brain-dead Limbaugh wannabe thug, who is 100% wrong, 100% of the time. An incredibly useful idiot for these perilous times.
Dan Patrick looks stupid. Childish, I know. But true.

(9,959 posts)Weve been hearing that less testing is being done, probably to hide the total number of cases. Hospital admissions are going down in most areas, but the state certainly still has a lot of cases. The mask mandate has helped. If anyone needed proof of the efficacy of wearing mask, all they need to do is look at the spikes back in June-July and the decrease in cases now, even with less testing.
Abbott will be running for reelection in 2022, and Im sure hell claim credit for decreasing cases even though they may be decreasing some from just not testing people who are sick but not sick enough to be hospitalized. Of course, hes the one who caused the spike in the first place by reopening too soon and preventing local mayors from enforcing the wearing of masks. I hope Beto runs against him. He would have a good chance of winning.
