United CEO sees low air travel until a widely available vaccine

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said on Sunday that, while he believes it’s safe to fly now, he doesn't see air travel returning to prepandemic levels until a coronavirus vaccine is developed and widely distributed.

“Our view is, demand is not coming back, people are not going to get back and travel like they did before until there is a vaccine that’s been widely distributed and available to a large portion of the population,” Kirby said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “I hope that happens sooner, but our guess is that's the end of next year.”

the general consensus is that the industry is in deep trouble.............. well duh...............and since the wing nut in the white house hasn't a clue and lies about the issue and since he gets to fly on the taxpayers dime to go and play golf, he doesn't give a shit...................and then there is #Moscow Mitch who wasn't and still isn't in hurry to pass the Hero's Act, why when he makes $18,500.00 a month off the taxpayers dimes...................

Airlines are one of the planet’s top polluters. One of the few silver linings.

it's Webex, Zoom or GoToMeeting. Many companies are still on travel lock downs. Mine still is. Guidance since March has been to forecast zero travel in Q2, slight pickup in Q3, somewhat reduced travel in Q4, with return to normal by Q1 2021. I ignored the earlier guidance and the new guidance I'm ignoring keeps pushing that time line further down the calendar. For once my crystal ball was...crystal. With no vaccine, the last thing you want to do is be stuck in a metal tube, breathing each other's air for 2 or 3 hours. Occasionally, I get something right.

I think that's a pretty good assumption!

vacations per year, but that's out for now. I do plan to fly to Orlando in December to spend a week at Disney World.
