Trump Campaign Slashes Ad Spending in Key States in Cash Crunch

Source: Bloomberg

September 14, 2020, 2:00 AM MDT
Trump’s re-election campaign vowed last month to saturate voters early with ads in battleground states where voters cast large numbers of ballots before Election Day. But with 50 days until the election, the campaign is canceling ads in states he’ll need to win. In those crucial states, Trump lags Democratic nominee Joe Biden in polling, and Biden has more money to spend.

Between Aug. 10 and Sept. 7, Biden spent $97.7 million on broadcast and cable ads, while Trump spent $21.6 million, according to ad-tracking firm Advertising Analytics. In some crucial battleground states Biden outspent Trump. In Wisconsin, Biden spent $9.2 million to Trump’s $1.5 million; in Florida, Biden spent $23.2 million to Trump’s $6.4 million; in Arizona, Biden spent $10 million compared to $1.4 million by Trump, and in North Carolina, Biden spent $11.5 million to Trump’s $3.7 million.

In that same period, the Trump campaign stopped running ads in Michigan and Pennsylvania, two battleground states where Trump currently trails Biden by about 4 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics. Biden booked $8.5 million in Michigan and nearly $16.8 million in Pennsylvania.

While Trump’s August fundraising hit a record for his campaign at $210 million, it is far less than the $365.4 million Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised last month.

As the fall season approached, the Trump campaign started delaying or canceling ad time it had already bought. In Arizona, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, all key battleground states, the Trump campaign hasn’t aired any local ads since Labor Day. It’s also cut back in Minnesota and Michigan

Trump already has the Fox viewers, so why spend money there? I doubt that Fox viewers watch other TV channels, except for sports events. Biden should definitely air ads on these events.

Facebook is filled with Trump supporters, and they share an incredible amount of disinformation, much of it created by conspiracy theorists and no doubt a Russian disinformation campaign. Is Trump focusing his money on Facebook instead of television? And what is Biden doing on Facebook and other social media ads? He won’t reach younger voters without a variety of social media.

he's going to pull it all out on election day, and litigate and negotiate his way to a second term after election day. As was announced this weekend. I mean if you're saving your money for lawyers, what's the sense of spending on ads?

Birtherism could morph to election-fraudism. Cuz Trump's the only legitimate candidate in his mind.

Has a campaign for an incumbent ever gone bankrupt?

This shouldn't be happening to our stable genius. He told crowds in the first campaign that he was rich enough to use his own money so he'd be "beholden to nobody".

Maybe this is due to his base. Their currency is no good with Jefferson Davis' face on it.

like they can with many other campaign expenditures. If they can't grift off of it they're not interested. They'll simply continue to violate the law and use federal property for their campaign events.

They never did, and that's why the biggest donor to the GOP are energy companies.

The fact that Trump is shy of cash tells me he's losing corporate sponsorship. Probably from lack of confidence that he can be elected more than anything. No one likes to throw money at a dead racehorse.

to fill their personal pockets even more. And that means the whole administration of grifters, con artists, liars, thieves and that includes the GOP and Moscow Mitch are waiting for their 'faithful' to 'support them.

Not to mention that all supporting trump in his administration are complicit in the murders of almost 200,000. 28000 a month from this pandemic. All because he did not want "a panic" and people realizing he was responsible. Told Woodward, a republican yeah the COVID is dangerous and the general public that masks were not necessary. Social distancing was not necessary. The flu was a hoax cooked up by the Democrats. Come on people, we got to get real. We have a fascist, racist administration that gives less than a flying f*** about any of us. His base included and this "loser" "sucker" will never feel sorry for anyone dying who still won't heed the warning(s) about this deadly virus raging like widfire in America. And it never should have happened like this. This adminstration's leaders are looting all the money they can because they know Nov3, they are through or should be. I bet we'll see many disappear before charges are brought to bear.

But what the hell some will die like the rest, like Herman Cain and the many that will die from the Sturgis superspreader, 250,000 sick directly related to that cluster**** at the latest count I saw. I hope they'll die with a final realization, coming up on that last breath, that trump was responsible for their death along with thousands dying every day of COVID-19, maybe. Some are too stupid to even realize this fact.
