Trump campaign changes strategy in mail-in ballot lawsuit against New Jersey

Source: Politico

The Trump campaign has filed new arguments in its lawsuit to stop New Jersey from having a mostly mail-in election this November, but did nothing to hasten the lawsuit’s conclusion.

The campaign late Friday filed an amended complaint against the state, claiming a law New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed late last month violates the U.S. Constitution and federal statutes pertaining to Election Day.

“[The law] conflicts with those statutes because it (1) allows votes to be canvassed starting 10 days before Election Day and (2) allows mail-in votes to be cast after Election Day,” the amended complaint states.

The law directs local election officials to count ballots that are received for up to a week after Election Day, as long as they’re postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3. If the ballots are not postmarked, officials can count them if they’ve received them within two days of Nov 3.

They are, in a sense, nihilists. When it benefits them.

That’s why they want people to vote on internet connected voting machines. Easy to hack!

don't trust the machines. I don't trust the post office either. I will hand deliver my ballot or use a secure drop box.

They are apparently unsatisfied with the success of their tactics to keep "certain people" from voting at all, now they object to the votes that are cast being counted.

This should be a number 1 issue. Without free and fair elections, we are fighting an uphill battle -- one that we have been losing as a consequence of voter suppression efforts that have advanced by leaps and bound over the past couple decades. -- the most effective and insidious is the closure of polling places in "certain areas" to create long lines. Time is money, and lines are the new poll tax. I have little doubt that more than 1 in 10 people confronted with an insane line just leaves and goes back to work to home. This year, in lieu of closing polling places, they are limiting the number of drop boxes. https://www.democraticunderground.com/10142582888

We MUST do a better job of reversing this. We need a new voting rights act. The ideal federal law would impose a substantial fine on any state that fails to provide adequate resources. (For example, if people have to wait in lines more than 30 minutes, or have to travel more than 10 miles to a drop box, the state is hit with a fine that costs them far more than providing enough resources would. They won't run fair elections without a serious financial incentive.
