What do the poorest and least educated states in the nation have in common? Take a wild guess, Mr. President

Donald Trump appears to be seceding from the Union, which is bizarre given his status as the president of it. Make no mistake: Trump appears to be deliberately marginalizing himself by repeatedly insisting that he's not responsible for certain states and cities, despite technically being the president of the entire United States.
We've all heard him say it. On topics ranging from poverty to crime to COVID-19, Trump never hesitates to defer all the blame for whatever onto state and local Democrats rather than acknowledging that he's supposed to be the president of those cities and states, too.
Earlier this year, for example, Trump tweeted, "The homeless situation in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and many other Democrat Party run cities throughout the Nation is a state and local problem, not a federal problem." Trump, of course, is the president of those cities, and has been for nearly four years. Has he proposed any national solutions to the homelessness problem? Nope. He's simply seceding himself from those cities.

(4,544 posts)I skimmed the article and just shake my head.
Trump lovers are in a constant state of blaming the Dems/Libtards for everything.
I live in a red area of NY State.
Every chance they get, in response to any bad news coming out of New York City, our local republican voters always plead that New York cut off ties with the City. They moan that the City is the financial ruin of the state. They want their guns and their God given right to not wear a mask.
Little do they realize that the City keeps the rest of the state alive financially.
If NYC ever ceded from the State, two things would happen:
*The rest of NY would become Red And wither on the financial vine.
*I would move to another really Blue state (Ive lived in NYC but cant afford to move there now)
Republican voters are in a state of denial that ruins it for everyone else.

(8,907 posts)So pretty much the opposite side of the country.
San Diego County and Orange County were once the Urban Conservative counties in the state.
We worked our a$$e$ off in the early 2000's to flip San Diego County from Conservative to Liberal.
There are now more registered Democrats in SDC, by a small margin, than there are Republicans.
The city itself is very Democratic leaning, but the northern suburbs leading up to Orange and Riverside Counties
have plenty of Republican voters. And a lot of those suburbs are still within the San Diego city boundaries.
The good part is that California will go blue for the foreseeable future.
I have Republican friends that complain that their vote will mean nothing.
I just laugh and say, but you support the Electoral College, because without it, we would have
never had 8 years of G.W. McIdiot or Pendejo45 as pResidents.

(9,958 posts)It is the Democratically run cities that have been attracting technology and other jobs. It was quite a coup when Austin/Travis County landed the Formula One race. And of course Austin has been home to SXSW and Austin City Limits for years, both of which bring in a lot of revenue for the city and state.
Had the article included health insurance, or rather its lack, as a criterion, Texas would have been number 1. Republicans refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA and the state has the distinction of having the largest population of uninsured in the country, for several years in a row. It also has one of the highest maternal death rates in the country.
Why do voters refuse to see that when you vote for Republicans, you get more poverty, lower educational achievement, and higher rates of people without health insurance? I suppose all that is worth a few backward judges for some people.

Also at the bottom when it comes to Minimum Wage, Graduation rates, Birth rates, quality of life.
States that have State Income Taxes and Sales Taxes are able to afford the nicer things. Our Federal dollars go to support the poorer states that trend Republican.
