(20,200 posts)and an insomniac, so I go outside (I live in western New York) in the wee hours of the morning to look at the stars, constellations etc. The stars have been seriously dim the past few nights. At first I chalked it up to heat inversions, as it's been very cool after sundown. Then I realized it's smoke pollution from the western states' wildfires.

You can't see the smoke reaching western New York in this photo, but it is reaching us. Unbelievable.

(20,200 posts)(this story was related to me by my Mom, by the way) I used to say "rape" instead of "rake". I guess I was around three or so, and I probably had trouble with the "k" sound. I'd want to go outside and help my Dad "rape the lawn".
I don't say it anymore though.

We thankfully got rain during the night! Tamped it down for awhile. Moving back in slowly. Not as thick.

(20,200 posts)I've seen pictures and video, and I think I'd be out of the area in a heartbeat. I might think differently if everything I owned was at risk though. Stay safe, OK?
