US judge blocks Postal Service changes that slowed mail

Source: AP

SEATTLE (AP) — A U.S. judge on Thursday blocked controversial Postal Service changes that have slowed mail nationwide. The judge called them “a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service” before the November election. Judge Stanley Bastian in Yakima, Washington, said he was issuing a nationwide preliminary injunction as sought by 14 states that sued the Trump administration and the U.S. Postal Service. The states challenged the Postal Service’s so-called “leave mail behind” policy, by which trucks have been leaving postal facilities on time whether or not there is more mail to load. They also sought to force the Postal Service to treat election mail as First Class mail.

some of the mail I get either comes from Red States, or passes through them. I also don`t think that every Red State is all conservative Republicans so there is that too.

Court cases are great, but much of the damage is done. And as we saw in an earlier OP, the Postal Service may be declaring addresses as undeliverable to election officials to de-register voters. It will be interesting to learn whether that was just a local California issue, or something more widespread. After reading that post, I checked my registration, which was fine. Of course, Texas is considered red still, but I will be checking right up until when I vote, which I will do in person.

We have definitely seen changes in mail delivery here. There are often several days in a row with no mail at all, a highly unusual circumstance. Someone here tried an experiment with the mail, sending a card from one side of Austin to another. It took 27 days!

Trump and DeJoy have royally screwed up the USPS, and it will not be fixed before the election, though it would help if they’re forced to reverse the rules on overtime and having the mail trucks leave at a certain time even if they’re empty.

You're so correct that "much of the damage is done."

Makes me want to cry with frustration about all the evil that's being perpetrated by these trumpistas.

Now we'll have to see if this injunction has any teeth.

We're dealing with a completely lawless regime.
