Some storefront windows smashed during protest march in downtown Portland Saturday night

Source: The Oregonian

A group of 100 to 200 demonstrators marched through downtown Portland as they continued their nightly protests against racial injustice.

Portland police said an unspecified number of individuals broke the storefront windows of some businesses -- and that included U.S. Bank at Southwest Fourth Avenue and Harrison Street, Chipotle Mexican Grill at Southwest Broadway and College Street and a Starbucks coffee shop at Southwest Sixth Avenue and Salmon Street. Police also said some individuals sprayed graffiti.

No arrests were made but police are investigating.

Demonstrators had gathered in Portland for more than 100 nights as of early September, took a more than week-long break when the city was blanketed by heavy smoke from Northwest wildfires and then resumed their protests Friday night.

I live in Portland. There are NO Protest Leaders. The protests are organic and not led by anyone.

The thing the people want is fairness and equality. People want every person, regardless of skin color, to be treated humanely and fairly by the police and the court system.

That's not going to happen with a meeting between the mayor, governor, or president. It's going to happen when police stop being trained as if they were soldiers in Iraq. When jurors are not fed a daily load of crap about how people are evil by FOX news.

Defund police doesn't mean eliminate police. It means stop giving them weapons armies use and stop training them as if they were warriors in hostile nations.

So the angry people smashing stuff out of anger and frustration are helping Trump get re-elected.

Has anyone seen Umbrella Guy in Portland?

I'm paraphrasing the founders:

When peaceful requests for redress of issues are not heeded, the people must take further actions.

You seek to make a distinction in the founders' actions that is not realistic or valid. They intentionally did violence and damage.

I have no doubt small, local, stores had paid for tea being shipped to them.

In Portland they are protesting Police brutality so they break the windows at a Starbucks? And that sounds the same to you?

When peaceful protests by the colonists went unheard and unheeded they upped the ante. Our founding fathers resorted to destroying private property and then war.

We have had peaceful protests by people like Colin Kaepernick for some time. Those have gone unheard and unheeded.

I do not condone violent protests. I do not condone the destruction of property. It is also a fact that much of the property damage has been done by either right-wing groups or simple opportunists. NOT by BLM supporters.

Are you upset our founders didn't play nice? That they destroyed private property? That they openly destroyed property of people loyal to the king?

During the protests in Los Angeles many minority businesses were vandalized and looted along Fairfax, I would really like someone to tell me how destroying minority owned small businesses has helped. That is the problem with random destruction you are just as likely to hurt someone who supports you.

Protestors are not Yaweh. They can't distinguish between businesses that are supportive and businesses that are not.

There is no blood on the door. There is, however, more than enough blood of innocent black men on the streets.

I've been a member her FOR YEARS. I THINK LOTS OF THOSE PEOPLE "PROTESTING" are bad folks. like proud boy violent. i say lock them up.

i Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove freedom of speech but these people are beating and wrecking.

it breaks my heart. i have loved down town portland all my life. i cry driving around my city now.
Last week, i had surgery and had to go to St V in Beaverton and i was horrified. Portland looks so awful now. just awful. who are some of those hideous people who are committing the violence? It isn't the moms, teachers, kids, car mechanics, grocery workers, asian folks and black people.

I THINK THEY ARE EVIL TRUMPERS who infiltrated the groups. They are beating up on Portland.

i love offering my opinion and even protesting but these creeps are not protesting. they are destroying mom and pop busionesses. they are hurting innocents in the crowds. I hate them hate them.

i say ......... LOCK THEM UP!!!! 19 YEARS IN THE SLAMMER !!! Get rid of them now.

There may be a few right wing Trumpists that come down to cause damage to make the other protesters look bad
There may be a few left wing / anarchists that are young and angry and immature and join in too

But I think most of that damage is done by idiots that have nothing better to do. Nothing exciting is happening in their lives. They feel that the world has rejected them. Some are probably homeless street youth. To be able to vent their frustrations against the world like that is very intoxicating.

And one other clue, they are never arrested. Maybe that’s because some cops like what they are doing as it feeds Trump’s campaign.
