Study: Younger voters are most likely to have their absentee ballots rejected
Source: Salon
As half or more of the 2020 presidential election's votes will be cast on mailed-out ballots, a new study on why absentee ballots were rejected in three urban California counties in 2018 reveals why young voters' ballots were rejected at triple the rate of all voters.
Nationally, it is well known that absentee ballots arriving after state deadlines, problems with a voter's signature on the return envelope not matching their voter registration, or a missing signature account for more than half of all rejected ballots, as the latest federal statistics affirm. But a new California Voter Foundation (CVF) study reveals the most likely causes behind those errors, especially for young voters.

(23,339 posts)Imagine a drunken voting party at a covid-infested fraternity or sorority near a college campus.
A big table, covered with ballots, and the envelopes in a pile at one end of the table.
Who says voting can't be fun?
Matching a ballot with its appropriate envelope will be like matching an immigrant baby with its correct parents. Good luck.

@BarackObama
Over the last few months, I've learned a thing or two from the young people in our country. I figured I would return the favor by sharing with you how to make a plan to vote in this upcoming election.

(7,403 posts)A ballot to be rejected. It should trigger it to become a provisional ballot where the voter is notified and has "X" amount of time to come into the election office and correct the ballot which would then be counted. Other technical errors should be handled in a like manner. Obviously, a ballot arriving after the deadline cannot be counted and with provisional ballots not corrected in time. Sounds like a training issue to me, perhaps deliberate.

(30,613 posts)I just never developed that skill. In 50 years of signing things, I'm pretty sure this is the first time anybody will ever actually look at my signature.

(410 posts)you would think I'm one of the highest paid doctors writing prescription.
Not only is it often undecipherable but it is never the same.
A good side is that high level writing analysis people can see the nuances that
indicate the signature is mine, of course they come at a high level price tag.
I like the previous idea of making it provisional with x time to come in and fix.
How would you know, well put a contact email on the form.
This does not have to be your daily email, and I highly suggest that, but a thrown down temporary one.
Kind of like the "security questions".
Where were you born - well duh that is publicly available.
So lie but you absolutely must remember that lie.
