Johnson & Johnson Begins Large Trial of Its One-Shot Vaccine

Source: NY Times

Although they are a couple of months behind the other so-called Phase 3 trials in the United States, Johnson & Johnson’s trials will be the largest, with plans to enroll 60,000 participants. And the experimental vaccine may have considerable advantages over some of its competitors, experts said. It does not need to be stored in subzero temperatures, and it may require just one dose instead of two.

“It would be fabulous if we had something at a single dose,” said Dr. Judith Feinberg, the vice chairwoman for research in medicine at West Virginia University, who was not involved in the study.

Johnson & Johnson’s experimental vaccine uses an adenovirus to carry a gene from the coronavirus into human cells. The cell then produces coronavirus proteins, but not the coronavirus itself. These proteins can potentially prime the immune system to fight off a later infection by the virus.

The company is planning to recruit up to 60,000 people over the age of 18 for its Phase 3 trial in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and South Africa.

Important point: They will not be done with JUST THE TESTING of the vaccine until 2021 so once agin Trump is
lying about a vaccine be ready by October or November.

"The trial started on Monday. At a news conference on Tuesday, Dr. Paul Stoffels, chief scientific officer of Johnson & Johnson, said the company might be able to determine by the end of the year if the vaccine is safe and effective."

I hope it works.

drumpf isn't invested in this one, so I'm not worried about him pushing it before it's been thoroughly tested. Plus, this one is so much more doable with one shot required instead of 2 and no minus 70 degree storage requirement. Of course drumpf invested in and is pushing the 2 dose required and minus 70 degree storage - it's much more expensive so he stands to profiteer greatly from it. That's why I'm praying it's not the Astra Zeneca version that makes it to the door first - too much chance of drumpf doing his usual destruction by putting out not fully tested and very expensive version and profiteering from it and hurting Americans by using this cumbersome method which will take much longer to implement.

He is setting up a distribution system for a vaccine that hasn't been made yet? And that
vaccine is at least 1/2 a year out (at best). A few weeks ago he said that he was staying at
the White House that weekend, "to work on the vaccine." WTF was he going to do work
on? Genomic RNA sequencing or corona viral antigen response to antibody receptor sites?

It pisses me off knowing that we would not be going through this shit if Hillary hadn't had
the White House stolen by the Russians/Trump/Republicans.

You don't just shoot something into a bunch of people and let them go, you have to follow up on any complaints after the jab, anyone who gets sick with anything during the first month after the jab, anyone who tests positive for the disease the jab is supposed to prevent, and then all the paperwork has to be collected and gone over carefully. It all takes a lot of time, but it''s the only way to prevent things like the swine flu debacle of 1976, when a vaccine was rushed out which injured a lot of people with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The earliest we could see a vaccine approved is March or so, and even that will be rushed.
