President Trump held a news conference at the White House in which he responded to a question about whether he would agree to a peaceful transfer of power by saying, “Well, we’re going to have to see what happens." Earlier in the day, he predicted the election would end up in the Supreme Court.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden made an appeal Wednesday to Black voters in North Carolina, promoting his plans for improving education and housing disparities as he made his first trip to the battleground state since the primaries. President Trump has heavily targeted the state.

Trump refuses to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses
By Colby Itkowitz

Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the election, asserting that if he doesn’t win, it will be because of fraudulent mail-in voting. There is no evidence of widespread fraud in voting by mail.

“Well, we’re going to have to see what happens. You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster — " Trump began when asked during a White House news briefing whether he’d ensure a peaceful transition.

“I understand that, but people are rioting, do you commit to making sure that there’s a peaceful transferral of power?” the reporter pressed.

“Get rid of the ballots and you’ll have a very — we’ll have a very peaceful, there won’t be a transfer, frankly. There’ll be a continuation,” Trump said. “The ballots are out of control. You know it. And you know who knows it better than anybody else? The Democrats know it better than anybody else.”

empathy! After that we'll put him on the rack to stretch him out since he's got a thing about being tall. Then we'll inject him with a disinfectant. If he's still alive we could throw him in a dog kennel @ the border. We'll get the doctor (that did the hysterectomies) to remove his weiner & jewels. We could then toss him out in the hot Mexican desert without any food or water & hope the vultures or gangs finish him off...

"The Ballots are a disaster"? "Ballots are out of control"? Which Ballots? Where? Why?

"Get rid of the Ballots"? What? THAT IS HOW VOTES ARE CAST.

What the fuck is he talking about? No one knows anything about what he's implying, including reporters, Democrats, AND HIS OWN STAFF.

EVERY FUCKING REPORTER should ask WTF are you talking about? Be specific.

My entire state votes by mail and has for years. There are no issues with mail-in ballots. He is completely full of shit, if that's even what he was talking about.

42. Right! If you feel compelled to ask a surreal question like that,
Thu Sep 24, 2020, 02:12 AM
Sep 2020

then the question itself reveals how low we have sunk as a nation.

If you have to ask, we are doomed. We have jumped into the abyss --
or were pushed into it.

We should never have to ask a president if he plans to follow the rule
of law -- a basic expectation of a civilized homo sapiens -- or if he plans
to act like an antisocial lunatic. WTF is going on?!

The answer was even more insane than the question. Trump should have
been dragged away to a mental institution or to jail right on the spot.

The atavistic regression of our nation and "generation of swine" which
Hunter Thompson warned us about years ago has been made manifest
in Trump, the insane scapegoat for the sins of our nation who has come
back to trample on us and whatever remains of our human decency.

"We have descended to the level of dumb beasts."

Wed Sep 23, 2020, 09:37 PM

If the vote is close, Donald Trump could easily throw the election into chaos and subvert the result. Who will stop him?

There is a cohort of close observers of our presidential elections, scholars and lawyers and political strategists, who find themselves in the uneasy position of intelligence analysts in the months before 9/11. As November 3 approaches, their screens are blinking red, alight with warnings that the political system does not know how to absorb. They see the obvious signs that we all see, but they also know subtle things that most of us do not. Something dangerous has hove into view, and the nation is lurching into its path.

The danger is not merely that the 2020 election will bring discord. Those who fear something worse take turbulence and controversy for granted. The coronavirus pandemic, a reckless incumbent, a deluge of mail-in ballots, a vandalized Postal Service, a resurgent effort to suppress votes, and a trainload of lawsuits are bearing down on the nation’s creaky electoral machinery.

Something has to give, and many things will, when the time comes for casting, canvassing, and certifying the ballots. Anything is possible, including a landslide that leaves no doubt on Election Night. But even if one side takes a commanding early lead, tabulation and litigation of the “overtime count”—millions of mail-in and provisional ballots—could keep the outcome unsettled for days or weeks.

If we are lucky, this fraught and dysfunctional election cycle will reach a conventional stopping point in time to meet crucial deadlines in December and January. The contest will be decided with sufficient authority that the losing candidate will be forced to yield. Collectively we will have made our choice—a messy one, no doubt, but clear enough to arm the president-elect with a mandate to govern.

Recently, two retired Army officers speculated about deploying a brigade from the 82nd Airborne Division to overpower Trump's "private army" that they believe the defeated president will use to try to cling to office. Another retired officer, a former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, imagined the military in battle with armed Trump supporters, the result being that "all bets are off as to how much blood might flow."
