Republican-Controlled Senate Passes Peaceful Transfer of Power Resolution Vowing 'No Disruptions by
Source: Mediate
The Republican-controlled Senate passed a resolution from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) reaffirming its commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, after President Donald Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer if he loses the presidential election.
Manchins resolution read that the Senate reaffirms its commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power called for in the Constitution of the United States, and intends that there should be no disruptions by the President or any person in power to overturn the will of the people of the United States.
The resolution was passed by unanimous consent in the Republican-controlled Senate on Thursday.

Spines take quite awhile to find when they aren't used.
Edit to add - of course this is after they get their SCOTUS justice rammed through.

(24,259 posts)shit if he tries something but this at least gives me a tiny (very tiny) spark of hope that maybe, when push comes to shove, the GOP might finally do the right thing for our country.

(14,610 posts)That they are privately confident that no matter what the polls say, they have in place assurances from swing state Governors, and Putin that they will push Trump over the required elector votes. Maybe using voting machine hacking. Then they will use the old "Gee, I guess there was a last minute surge for Trump", or "most people asked in polls didn't admit they were voting for Trump" who knew?
So they then rebuff any Democratic challenge to the result when they pull this out and accuse Democrats of two-faced hypocrisy.

(7,775 posts)That's exactly what came to mind when Dump started his early blathering about mail-in-votes, and then had someone cripple the USPS. When they (GOP, Putin, and Dump) obviously went out of their way to have us pay attention to the USPS, you can bet your bottom dollar they're after the voting machines.
Damn them all.

It should be illegal for an outgoing administration not to help prepare an incoming administration be ready on day one...or at least give them reasonable assistance to be ready.
I can totally see Trump instructing his administration officials not to cooperate with Bidens team or impeding the transition in some way.
By all accounts, Trump was given a peaceful transition; he should do the same for Biden WHEN the time comes.

(100,959 posts)Is merely a formal agreement among the majority confirming their intent to uphold this process as is customary. Since it is language in the Constitution, I think that is its legitimacy in the first place. Now we have this confirmation to recognize the legal process so to speak.

So far, that side of the aisle will only say what they think will sound good and fool the opposition into shutting up for awhile.
This is how it SHOULD be. But there's no reason to expect that OUR opposition will hold to it, even if they voted for it.

39. case precedent for a government official signing an NDA.
Liberty Ammo v United States
short story... In almost all cases, a non-disclosure agreement with a government official will not bind the Federal government.
which might be sliiiightly different than if the other party is bound... but it still comes down to, did the government official have the 'express or implied' authority to make the NDA binding.
