Appeals Court signals it's out of patience in fight over Trump's taxes

Source: New York Daily News

Donald Trump’s relentless fight to keep his taxes from Manhattan District Cy Vance could soon reach an end.

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals appeared to run out of patience Friday with Trump’s legal challenges to Vance’s subpoenas on his longtime accounting firm.

Although no final ruling was issued, all three judges on the panel were deeply skeptical of arguments by Trump attorney William Consovoy.

Judge Raymond Lohier wondered if there was any subpoena Trump would consider justified.

Glenn Kirschner gives a pretty good commentary on this. I'll post it in a bit.

It'll be sweet if it gets to scotus before the new justice, ends with a tie and trump's tax returns are forced out right before election day.

In fact, once he is out of office and facing numerous charges, he will fight every single one to the max, all the way to SCOTUS. He will expect rulings in his favor. And he might get that with some of the charges because the chages might involve or imply people the court will want to protect.

At the very least, the stalling tactics of appeals will slow down convictions against him to the point that they might not even be resolved by the time he dies.

I hope that he does not escape accountability, but he is so slippery that it always seems like he might get away with everything. However, he will still face the public humiliation of being voted out and having his actions in office reversed, rejected, and ridiculed.

If he just released his tax returns 4 years ago, we probably would have forgotten about whatever horrifyingly criminal thing was in them at this point. Now we might get it released to the grand jury, leaked and it will be all anybody is talking about for a whole week before election day.

that those tax records will be made public is if someone leaks them. But that would be incredibly risky, considering the types of people he has had financial dealings with.
