MOSCOWPolice detained a liberal opposition-party leader and another activist Saturday at a rally protesting alleged vote fraud in Russia's parliamentary election, a sign that authorities may take a tougher line against a burgeoning anti-Kremlin movement during Prime Minister Vladmir Putin's run for the presidency.
Moscow city authorities had approved a rally by up to 300 followers of the Yabloko party in a park, but police required them to pass through metal detectors and remain inside an area cordoned off by barriers.
The party leader, Sergei Mitrokhin, objected to the arrangement and angrily pulled away one of the barriers, leading part of the crowd into the protest site around a police checkpoint. He was taken into custody after the rally.
In a Twitter message from a police station, Mr. Mitrokhin called the security measures "provocative" and declared, "I do not consider myself guilty."
