RNC, Trump campaign push back on changing debate rules
Source: The Hill
The Republican National Committee and Trump campaign are signaling they will oppose changes to the presidential debate structure after the nonpartisan commission that manages the events said it is exploring potential adjustments following the chaotic contest in Cleveland.
Appearing on Fox News, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said that the commission should not make any adjustments without the support of both campaigns and that the rules should not be changed in the middle of the campaign, after both sides agreed to specific parameters.
McDaniel also suggested that the Commission on Presidential Debates was pursuing changes in order to assist Democratic nominee Joe Biden, arguing that the former vice president got away without answering tough questions at the first debate.
I hope the Committee on Presidential Debates does not change the rules to once again protect Joe Biden from answering to the American people, McDaniel said.

Put a life size cutout of Lardass behind the other podium and let Biden ask him questions all night and also answer his questions with the truth........
File this under: It will never happen, regretfully........

(17,935 posts)That would be fine with me. Trump, agree to changes or Biden gets 90 minutes all to himself.
I do not care for presidential debates anyway. Havent for many years. I think they should just do a number of interviews discussing important topics and show them on the networks. Only have debates when each party is choosing their presidential candidate.

(2,861 posts)Go back to times like the Lincoln/Douglas Debates. Only 1 candidate on stage at a
time, 45 minutes each if it is 90 minutes. They get a certain amount of time to answer each
question then they have to move on to the next question. The other candidate has to wait in a room
and cannot hear what the questions are or the response of the candidate on stage. The candidate in the
room has a independent monitor, no staff allowed, so the candidate can not hear the question or answer.
Answers must be about policy matters nothing about the other candidates policy. This idea forces the
candidate to really put their policys out there with no interruptions. Monitor has the authority to
shut down any candidate that goes against the rules by shutting off mike and turning it back on during the next
question.

It was an awful debate for MF45 and he lost voters. He has no restraint and will do the same thing again and blurt out something that will hurt him more. The proud boy comment was a disaster.

(30,295 posts)I'm going to use the new word I learned from Gratuitous this morning. You can't trust trump not to be shoutycrackers again in any debate if the moderator doesn't have an OFF button on the mic. Or a trapdoor under his podium.

(55,847 posts)Cancel the debates. Trump needs them more than we do, and if it's already too late to change the rules, they are signalling they want to cancel them. No loss, few minds are wavering.

(788 posts)Seriously? What does it matter what the parameters are the Trump campaign agreed to if they choose not to follow them anyway. They had their chance, to have a debate according to the rules both sides agreed to. They chose not too. They can either show up to the next debates and deal with them as they are, I assume in their usual feckless disrespectful manner, or they can stay away and whine like little bitches. They don't get to have any say in how they are run now, because they chose to ignore the very rules they made. They rendered themselves irrelevant in being responsible negotiators in defining the rules by their own chosen behavior.
I guess we shouldn't be surprised these feckless idiots are trotting out this tripe over a relatively meaningless debate, when they basically did the same stupid stuff w/ the big stuff like the Iran nuclear agreement. Trump pulls out of it and then whines like a little bitch that Iran wasn't abiding by the agreement he broke. I really wonder how the idiots that buy his crap manage to keep enough neurons firing to keep breathing on their own.

(1,789 posts)They wanted to fluster Biden into saying something embarrassing, then Trump shouted over him so you couldn't hear him say anything. Smooth move, clusterfuck. Complaining about self-inflicted outrage, welcome to the team, McDaniel here's your complimentary Kool-Aid.
