White House aide says physician withheld health specifics to lift Trump's spirits
Source: Axios
White House communications director Alyssa Farah said Sunday that White House physician Sean Conley withheld specific details at Saturday's press briefing about Donald Trump's medical condition in order to "convey confidence" and "raise the spirits" of the president.
Conley and the White House have come under intense criticism after Chief of Staff Mark Meadows provided an anonymous statement to reporters on Saturday saying that Trump had a "very concerning" period on Friday, contradicting the more rosy assessment Conley had provided in a television briefing just moments earlier.
Pressed by Axios' Alayna Treene at a briefing earlier on Sunday, Conley said he was "trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president, his course of illness has had."
"I didn't want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction, and in doing so, you know, it came off that we were trying to hide something, which wasn't necessarily true," Conley added.

How does it make any sense? The president knew he was on oxygen. How would it lift his spirits to know that the public was being lied about the oxygen. Wouldnt that make him more worried that it was serious?

White House communication director says a reason the President's doctor was not forthcoming during a globally-televised press conference about the health of the most powerful person in the world is because the doc wanted to lift Trump's spirits, which she calls a common practice.

How long would they wait to tell Trump he's dead? So as to not dampen his spirit.

(2,337 posts)They said his blood O2 dropped below 95% (causing the trip to Walter Reed) and below 93%, causing them to give dexamethasone. Major, MAJOR bullshit. In the hospital, outside of a procedural or emergency setting, we don't give O2 unless a patient is BELOW 90%. They wouldn't give dexamethasone unless he was below 90%, for an extended period of time and supplemental O2 wasn't helping. And, they usually have to have pneumonia to get dexamethasone, as those are the patients its been shown to help. Everything they've said is either a gross misstatement or outright lie.

(64,869 posts)...if the Blood O2 got into the 80s. That's was when his reply was "...never in the low 80s...". Although that wasn't the question. The reporter might have gotten info like you just provided. It would make sense to ask about " in the 80s."
Good info, GB.

(2,337 posts)Most people don't know or understand this (or any) medical terminology, so I wanted to provide it for people here. I mean, you can be sitting in your chair at home and be between 95-100% O2 saturation. Hard exercise, like running, and you're obviously going to be lower - but that's not a medical emergency unless you pass out.
So, for reference: Normal blood oxygen level 95-100%*
Low normal blood O2: 90-94%*
Below 90% is considered "Desaturated". You may hear that the patient "is desating".
*Now, an exception to the rule for this is for patients with COPD (emphysema/chronic bronchitis): Their blood oxygen levels can be considered "normal" at around 88%. And we DON'T give extra O2 to get them back into the 90s, because due to the mechanism of COPD, that will actually shut down their drive to breathe. This may be more info than people want, but there it is anyway. 😁

(2,022 posts)He is surrounded by doctors, and I imagine that any treatment that might help and will not harm, would be considered. As you probably know, doctors break standard rules all the time, even with normal patients.

(2,337 posts)He already said his vitals were "concerning" and that's why he was sent to WRH. He was on O2 before he walked out to Marine 1 (likely because he had to have it in order to be ABLE to walk out).
Everyone in the WH - and Dolt45 - is pissed at Meadows for making that statement. So here's my take: If Meadows was lying, then no one would be pissed at him; they'd have played along. Then, low and behold! tRump recovers super quick!

(1,722 posts)Something needs to be done about misinformation that affects health, safety, or national security.
Free speech is, of course, very important to the survival of a democracy, but too much of a good thing can be a serious problem. Our democracy is currently in serious danger because of misinformation. Surely it is possible to outlaw public dissemination of false or misleading information that endangers health, safety, or national security.
We must not let a rigid, irrational, overly literal interpretation of the First Amendment lead to our downfall.
