WASHINGTON Allies of President Donald Trump on Monday defended his decision to leave Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to drive by his supporters and wave from his motorcade despite criticism that he put Secret Service agents at risk.
Several close associates of the president said Trump did the drive-by Sunday to show he was doing well during his treatment for Covid-19. They also dismissed the possibility of the Secret Service personnel contracting the disease because of the precautions taken.
"The president wanted to thank all the supporters who had been standing out there for days supporting him," said Corey Lewandowski, one of Trump's 2016 campaign managers, on NBC's "TODAY" show.
Lewandowski said he was told that the detail leader of the Secret Service and the driver "both volunteered for that assignment."

you have already "volunteered" to take a bullet for the President. So, a Secret Service agent "volunteering" to drive around a President with COVID-19 in a sealed SUV doesn't mean anything. In addition, whether or not they volunteered does not change the fact that Trump needlessly put three Secret Service agents in danger.

(8,311 posts)Both of his mental stability and his respiratory status.
He did a 4+ minute video Saturday, but a relatively short one Sunday.
As a person intimately familiar with how my respiratory status influences my speech (one of my lung doctor's initial tests in every visit with all his patients is to ask them to speak for a time about their day/their life, he said, mainly to evaluate exactly how often they are having to pause speech for additional air), I would be far more reassured about his lungs hearing him just rattle on about literally anything, if he could do it at a sustained pace without having to break a sentence to gasp.
And hearing just what he rattled on about would tell us how much the steroids are affecting his already questionable mental state.
